Awesome! Thank you! I belong to 24HR fitness but getting to the nearest one from work took me nearly 30 minutes because of traffic. I'm commuting now 60 miles one-way, 5 days a week so by the time I'm home, I'm usually too sleepy to make it to the gym. :( So, hiking/walking would be a great alternative!

What always works for me is to be prepared!!!! If I'm not prepared and I am starving or just have the munchies then my whole healthy eating goes out the window.

Things I do to be prepared:

--

Keep flavored sparkling water in the fridge along with cut up lemons and limes to make it fun

Keep cut up english cucumbers, baby carrots and celery on hand for calorie free munching, especially good when you need that crunch!!

Keep olives from the olive bar on hand. The kind with the pit work good for me since they take longer to eat. 6 olives are only about 1 point and are good for my salt fix.

I always keep frozen grapes around. They take a long time to eat, are yummier than normal grapes and 1 cup is only 1 point. (I freeze them myself)

Fat free, sugar free chocolate pudding, chocolate covered cranberries (trader joes has these), tootsie roll pops and chocolate covered frozen bananas (trader joes) are good for the chocolate cravings.

Always keep a few frozen smart ones or lean cuisine meals on hand for those nights that the kiddies have pizza. Also when the office orders chinese on thursdays I keep the lean cuisine eggroll meal on hand so I don't feel like I'm missing out.

I have to cook for my kids who are like two lil toothpicks and since I work fulltime and we're on the go a lot I depend on the frozen food section from Trader Joe's a lot. I love the chicken lo mein which takes all of five minutes to make, the chicken fried rice and even the orange chicken. (we love chinese lol). These are all very low in points per serving compared to take out and extremely satisfying.

I usually make a ratatouie (sp???) made with onions, zuccini and stewed tomatoes. Virtually point free (maybe 1/2 point per cup or so) and fills you up.

I also try to walk every other day for 1/2 hour. Lately I've been dropping the kids off to their softball game, then I walk the beach for the 1/2 hour and get to the game in time to catch the last half. Little things too like not parking so close to that store, taking the stairs whenever possible, taking a walk at lunch if you can fit it in, all add up.

I'm sure I'll think of more but that's all for now. Oh and most importanty track what you are eating. I hated doing this at first but now it's second nature and I was shocked to find out how many points/calories some of the foods I was downing had in them!

I'm in too!!!!

Some things I have been doing: using the grill a lot now that it is summer. I marinate fish, chicken or lean beef and then grill it along with some veggies. I try to limit certain carbs, like white potatoes, white rice, etc. but do not completely cut them out of my diet. I've learned that if I deprieve myself of something for awhile, I eventually end up binging on it, which is not at all healthy.

Eating smaller meals more frequently and drinking lots of water also works well for me.

And exercise of course. I just gave my husband permission to be my drill sergeant / personal trainer, because I really want to get out of bed in the morning and walk then, when it is cooler, but since I am so NOT a morning person, have been finding it very difficult. I also try to walk for 20 -30 minutes during my lunch break at work with some co-workers and then do weights a few times a week.

Weight Watchers has been helpful in the past; I do well when there is some accountability to another. Unfortunately, there are some reasons why I cannot attend the meetings in my rural area :(

So, how are we going to do this? Post pounds or dress sizes lost? Or just keep it as a supportive thread for tips and a place to vent?

Since some of us men don't wear a dress, at least not that we know of, we can't disclose the loss in a dress size. I would recommend just leaving it up to the individual whether they want to do pounds or dress sizes. Sound like a plan Stan (or Jan if you're female)? :D

Yeah, I would say we just keep this for encouragement, tips, talking about our frustrations, good days, bad days, etc. Anyone can feel free to post pounds lost but not feel they have to post weight or size. I know for myself, I don't want to post my actual weight on here at the moment!! M.

I'm in!!

I spent the last 3 days in Vancouver doing nothing but eating and drinking! Oh ya, and a K3 Interview. So many amazing places to eat there! Awesome ethnic cuisine. Anyway, now I feel bloated and gross and I have heartburn!

I feel so great when I eat healthy- what I love is that it only takes a few days of eating right before I can really notice a difference in how I feel. I'm not as sluggish, I'm not as grumpy, etc.

Well, I will come out and say it -- I need to lose 100 pounds.

seeing as it took me 15 years to get to this place, it's not going to fall off my body overnight (one can wish and hope!). So, I am going to lose it in 5 pound chunks. If I focus on the large goal, I will get discouraged very easily and stop whatever I am doing, but if I go at it 5 pounds at a time, it'll be easier. When I get down to my goal, I plan on buying myself a special reward.

So I am going to need lots of encouragement and accountability! :help:
