Look for the DJIA to go wild today...futures are way up.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Employers added more jobs to their payrolls in May, according to the government's closely-watched jobs report that indicated stronger-than-expected labor market strength.

There was a net gain of 157,000 jobs in the month, up from the revised 80,000-job gain in April. Economists surveyed by Briefing.com had forecast that there would be a 135,000 gain in employment in May.

The unemployment rate stayed at 4.5 percent, the same as in April and in-line with economist forecasts.

The report also showed that average hourly wages rose 6 cents, or to 0.3 percent, to $17.30. That also was in line with forecasts. The average hourly wage is now up 3.9 percent from a year earlier, which is more than the 2.6 percent gain in prices for the 12 months ending in April, according to an earlier Labor Department reading.

The job gains came in the service sector. Manufacturing lost 19,000 jobs, while construction employment was unchanged, even in the face of the downturn in home building over the last year. Top of page

Yep, I am looking for three candidates right now. One to replace a staff member that posted out to a different department and two to add to my current headcount. Same goes for other Managers in the department. The growth we're experiencing is just enormous and good candidates are ever harder to come by.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Financial Services Professionals, preferrably with a good bit of experience in securities settlements operations. Even though Tampa is from time to time referred to as "Wall Street of the South", it's not a profile that's easily found outside of NYC, Chicago or Charlotte. Which is why I'd settle for a sharp college grad for at least one of the three spots. But even those are hard to come by.

Yes and no, on the surface a strong gain in jobs looks good. But on the other hand but since most of these jobs are lower paying service jobs, not so much. Yes the economy is growing, but its growing alot faster at the top, than the bottom where most americans are. Increasing the disparity between the rich and the poor. While the average could be increasing, the median is not.

The average hourly wage increase is pretty much in line with inflation. So there are really no gains for workers.

Mine aren't but that doesn't change the fact that there are an aweful lot of very low paying jobs out there. It is surprising, however, that there isn't a greater run for the better payng positions...

Part if it is an issue of education and training. Back 50 years ago, a manufacturing job paid pretty well. You didnt need much education to get one, and if you did you were set for life. This created a strong middle class in america and a better distribution of wealth.

Now the tides have turned, globalization has allowed manufacturing to be done elsewhere were the costs are cheaper. Technology has brought in more automation to the manufacutring processes. So over time, higher paying manufacuring jobs have been replaced with lower paying service jobs. This has weaked the middle class and changed the wealth distribution to be alot more top heavy.

So just because we are adding jobs, doesnt mean our economy is improving for everyone.

The high paying jobs are there it's just they require some higher skills to go along with it. Most of our guys make $20+ but to get that job you need some experience. I won't say what I make but it is much more than the average and I get yearly raises that are more than inflation. The low skill/high paying jobs may be going away but that is more a function of the higher technology world we live in than anything else.

I was actually thinking of getting another degree, this time in finance. What kind of money are you paying them?

It depends on the candidate and the expertise and skillset (s)he brings to the table. In general terms and to put a figure to it, suffice it to say that I don't have a single employee reporting to me that goes home with less than 40K a year. And the benefits this place offers are pretty nice, too.

I can make twice that easily.

If I'm going to go back to school, I want something with a lot of growth potential salary-wise. School is a massive investment and it's one I don't really need since I already have a degree, so if I'm going to do it again I'll have to make more than what I'm making now to make it worth my while.

I wouldn't want to work for 40K again, either. And I sure don't. Though I was in that range a few short years ago. Which is to say that there's lots of growth potential salary-wise in this business. When I think about what I started at in the industry and where I am today, I'd say that there was quite significant growth. No reason to complain, really.
