Biometrics Appointment: ZERO fingerprints were taken!

Hi guys,

I did extensive search on this and found nothing (which didn't reassure me!).

I went for my biometrics appointment early April at the Brooklyn office for my N-400 application. I had code #3 written on the notice.

They took my picture, but ZERO prints. They didn't take my signature, either.

My last bio appointment was for my 10 year green card at the end of July, 2017 so I am surprised they didn't take any new prints.

Should I be worried? Because of course I am. By the way I applied after being married for 5 years with my US spouse.

Thanks!

Have you tried to go back to the ASC and ask? This is what I search online. I have code 5 for my N-400 application, and code 5 was exactly they did to me.

So technically the ASC should do the fingerprints (10 prints) and biometrics (photo, signature and index finger.

What are the Biometrics Notice Codes?

Normally, an ASC Biometrics Notice would contain (in the top right area), a field named “Code.”    The “Code” field is intended to indicate the type of biometrics processing to be performed.  The possible values are:

  • Code 1 – fingerprinting only (10 prints);
  • Code 2 – biometrics (photo, signature and index finger);
  • Code 3 – fingerprints (10 prints) and biometrics (photo, signature and index finger).
  • Code 5 – one-hand fingerprints (4 prints on one hand), photo and signature.

Exactly, specially the signature since the signature will appear on OP's naturalization certificate.

Ok. So... they made a mistake that could cost me extra months of wait (if for instance they only see the problem once I get to my interview)?

The woman stamped and signed my notice, as usual, when it’s all done. So I am very confused...

Should I just show up at the bio center? I don’t know if anyone here has shown up at the Brooklyn office without a notice, but considering my multiple experiences there I don’t see this going anywhere. I will do it if I have to, of course.

I should also add this: after the woman looked me up she said “oh, no need for fingerprints, they are already in there” (from January 19th 2017, I suppose) and said she only needed my picture.

It's normal for them to already have your fingerprints on-file. They do a quick lookup using 1-2 fingers, then the system finds them from your previous I-485/I-751/immigrant visa and re-submits from that.

But you should have had your signature and photograph captured on top of that.

They didn’t do a look up. My fingers were used for nothing.

They took my picture though. And the stamp on the notice says “biometrics processed”!

Your signature still should have been taken though, since, as stated above, it appears on your naturalisation certificate, if your application is approved.

Hi guys,

I wanted to update you on my case.

So I was worried because nobody took my fingerprints at my bio appointment in April. I had my interview this past Wednesday, and I passed! No problem with my biometrics.

My husband tells me that because we applied for global entry in December last year, it probably "renewed" my biometrics in their system, and they didn't need any more.

I was also lucky enough to receive my oath ceremony date while I was still at the interview, so I will be an American on January 10th.

It was so fast, I feel lucky (I am in NYC)!!!
