Didn't file AR-11 as GC

I was going to apply for my citizenship after having received my green card 5 years ago. I didn't realize that I needed to file AR-11s even as a GC.

 

I moved around 2 years ago to a new address. Should I file a AR-11 before I file the N-400?

 

I wasn't sure how seriously they take a lack of AR-11 filing.

I was in the exact same boat as you when I filed my N400.  For the exact same reason (I wasn't aware it was a requirement as a LPR).  I'd moved a couple of times over my 13 years as a LPR and never filed the address change.

 

I filed an AR-11 the day before I filed my N400, just so it was "taken care of".  Was not an issue, never came up.

Now that you are aware, file it. Technically you were supposed to file it within 10 days of moving, but realistically they don't enforce anything about it.

I feel like it’s something they’d probably like to enforce but simply don’t have the resources to do so.

 

Also, sponsors must file a change of address form.  I had no idea, until I read a random comment on here once.  It had been 8 months at that point, so I sent in my husband’s form (I had filed my change of address on time - had no idea a USC was also supposed to).  

 

I think I got a letter saying it was filed.  I remember seeing the USCIS envelope in Informed Delivery and panicked that it was a late fee or something.

It’s online for LPR AR-11 and by mail for USC sponsor I-865.

Online is always better if the option is available.
