A K-1 sent back to USCIS will never be reaffirmed. It will sit there and expire.

This is when it is returned from a consulate. Usually when it is returned by NVC without ever going to the embassy there is a clerical error like a missing stamp or box not checked or something. The only problem is this case is so old so it is hard to tell what is really going on.

Not a newbie but lost my old info years ago) I have been through this process before --all the way through naturalization-- This site has always been a great help to me.
