Hello. I'm currently going through a divorce, but November will make five years since I've been a permanent resident and I believe I'm eligible to file then.  Can anyone give some insight on the process after divorce?

No specific process, you just file under 5-years.

Most definitely a specific process

IME, as the beneficiary of a marriage-based green card:

* I wanted to naturalize and wanted to divorce.  I divorced first to keep it simple. I was either going to be accepted as a USA citizen as a divorcee or I was going to be deported and I was prepared for the latter.

* Once I had a divorce  decree and 6 months in a new residence I started the application.

* An unplanned job less delayed my application by 3 months. Once I had the new job  I submitted my application.

* I submitted a copy of my divorce decree (and the original was delivered electronically). Fortunately the interview did not require a true original.

* I obtained original birth certificates of my born in USA children  and submitted copies of those.

* The IO looked at the original birth certificates, “to see that the marriage was real” in his words.

* Be prepared to prove that you are current on alimony and child support.

Obviously since I subsequently successfully petitioned a K-1 visa.😉

And wasn't deported.

Great.

Why would they deported you. I don’t think they will deport anyone unless you have a fake marriage

The only reason to deny naturalization would be if they thought the marriage was fake. A divorce does cause one to ask that question.

I hoped for the best and expected (and was prepared for) the worst. As an LPR, I was always prepared for a denial of re-entry into the USA, a denial of a green card renewal, or deportation.

As a naturalized USC, I expect and prepare for de-naturalization yet I hope for the best. 😉

It's like getting TSA Pre on my boarding pass 99.9% of the time and then a SSSS. Or getting an accept on Global Entry 99.9% of the time, and then an X.
