Hi everyone! My husband and I moved into our new home this weekend and now he can't find his passport (thinks it accidentally got thrown away 😒) . His interview for Citizenship is on October 22nd.  What happens if you go to the interview without the passport? Will this effect him getting an approval? He can prove that he's never been out of the country longer than 6 months based on work history and pay stubs. I don't think we'd be able to get a new passport in time, and even if we did it wouldn't show any of the previous travel information.

I-94 serves the purpose. This will not be an issue.

Thank you so much! This is really helpful, had no idea what this was. Thank God my husband just found the passport, but we're bringing this as well.

I wouldnt worry, your office is more advanced, we have to wait for 3 things :
1 assign the date
2 upload the letter

3 wait for it in the mail

Your office had everything ready and organized ! so good luck

Thanks! I just think it's so weird it's not online or in the mail!

Guys after my n400 interview . The slip I was handed says I passed my test but a decision cannot yet be made about my application. What does that mean ? I thought they give approvals after interviews .

From what I have read this is very common. If you had a new/junior officer, they cannot approve you on their own, they have to have a supervisor/senior officer look it over also, before approval is issued. It will be fine 🙂

So i did my interview today.

I filed my N-400 while I-751 is still pending. My husband and I don’t live together due to he moved a lot with the Navy.

Today we went there with our lawyer who also a Navy spouse like me and was very responsible.

My interview time is 12:30pm in Downtown San Diego.

Husband and I got there at 11:15am, waiting outside until the lawyer there at 11:45am and we all in together.

After check in, the security guy advised us go to 4th floor for Front Desk. We hanged the appointment letter to the Front Desk and I saw he took out the 2 big documents for my case we I realized those are all the documents I sent since the beginning of my Temporary Greencard.

We were waiting (not a lot of people). I review the civil questions.

12:30pm, my name was called. The lawyer and I got in first. She asked if my husband could come with me, the lady she No, just me first.

My husband and I kissed in front of her for my a good luck before I got in.

I stood up and do an Oath to said I will the Truth.

Then she asked my driver license. I asked if I can give my passport or military ID instead as I took Uber and forgot driver license home. She accepted my passport. Then she said she would do the test first.

I passed straight 6 questions:

1. Name one Indian tribe: Cherokee

2. Who is the speaker of the House: Nancy Pelosi

3. Who is the first President: George Washington

4. Which state is Us Capital: Washington DC

5. Who did we fight in WW2: Japan, Germany, Italy

6. What is one right of US citizen: vote for the Federal election

(this one, at first I said voting; then she didn’t continue, so I thought she wanted more, I said beside voting they also can join a political party, then she give me hint and said, voting for what, I said voting for the federal government, then she said “did you mean the election?”, then i said Yes”. Then she let me pass this question).

After civil test, she asked me look at the Tablet’s screen and read: “How many US Senators do we have?”

Then write down on the screen: “The Congress have one-hundred US Senators.” (With 100 spelled out “one-hundred”).

Then she said I passed the test and asked me some questions about my background, my jobs, my schools, my husband name, how long we married, any trips I had outside the country, I forgot to report 2 trips so I told her about it. She updated it and let me check and sign if they are correct.

Then she hanged me a letter and said I passed the N-400 test. However a decision cannot be made due to my I-751 has not been approved and I need another separate interview for that one. Since my husband will leave back to his station in Florida tomorrow night so i afraid he cannot attend another day. I asked her when will be that interview, she told me it would be right now, but my lawyer cannot be inside with us due to she doesn’t have a paper from my husband for this interview, she only has the paper for my n-400. So she escorted my lawyer to the waiting room and brought my husband in.

Now she start asked more questions about our relationship like the beginning like how we met, how long we date before married, who proposed first, who bought the ring, show her my ring (my husband took my hand up to show her as her request), who attended the wedding, what did you do after ceremony, our cellphone numbers, have we ever lived together, etc.

Because we honestly said we don’t live together, so all the questions afterward were around the reasons why we didn’t live together, why I didn’t move in with him, my husband said i have my jobs and business here and i have my team and customer bases and do a lot of training so I cannot leave. And due to he moved a lot and some training schools I cannot stay on base with him so I will have no where to stay if I move with him. And he tries to move back San Diego after he get out Navy.

Then she asked if his family know we got married. He said only his sister but not his parents because he didn’t contact them for years.

Then I said we Skype with my parents and my husband stay in my aunt and uncle house when he here.

There were actually only 5-6 questions about our relationship but she kept repeating the same question over and over again like 3-4 times and she said she just tried to understand and take carefully notes for review the reason we cannot stay together.

(i guess one of the reason she repeated many times so see if we messed up our answers because if we lie, we will messed up, but lol, we have nothing to hide, at that time in the room with all her asking fast, I don’t think you even have time to think about the lie to tell... and all we can think of were what truly happened to me and my husband. Even she asked hundred times, we still only can give her those same answers.)

Finally she gave up asking us question, lol. I didn’t want just to leave like that, to be honest. So I asked her how long I can have a decision. She said about 2 months, they will let me know whether or not they need more information. We prepared many documents and my husband carry a big bag with many folder inside so i didn’t want them to be wasted. I told her incase she may need more info, I have them here, I want to give to her. She told me she should have a lot of mine before, I said I have more than that, like pictures, she said yes she need pics, give her pics then i said Joint bank, she say yes, then Phone call and text, then my life insurance from my company, my friend’s letter about my relationship, my husband’s letter invite my parents come visit, a receipt he sent cash to my parents, etc. i tried giving her all, but she tried to stop me and said it should be enough. Lol.🤣 seem like she tired of me and wanted to kick us out. Finally she said my decision should not take 2 months, should be less than 2 months. Lol. She just cannot approve now and must have her supervisor review.

I thanked her before leaving and she started to smile to me.

We went out. My lawyer was waiting outside for her and suddenly ran back to her room.

Later on we went out of the building. The lawyer told me she forgot her purse inside the room so she went back and had a chance to talk with the lady about my case. My lawyer said the lady seems really like me but she just really cannot approved without her supervisor review the case which is really common nowadays due to the I-751 has been delay for so long and lot of people tried to do combo interview like this together.

Now we are in a waiting game. I got a little frustrated but tried to take it easy as much as I can and I feel proud of my husband because he was so stressful but still comfort me afterward. Lol, he even gave me a back massage right in front of the lady during the interview because he afraid I was so nervous. But even if they ask more evidences later, I really cannot think of what else we can give to them because we gave them all what we have.

So, like my friend always tells me:

”Do your best, trust God for the rest.”

Good Luck to everyone.

your experience helped me a lot for this interview. Thank you so much. 🙏🏻

Went to Infopass appointment today in Los Angeles. Met couple of ‘future citizens’ here for their test and they said it took them 9 months to get to this stage. All my LA people, it looks like for April 2019 filers, the wait is roughly 4 more months. Keep calm and carry on!

Thank you!

I have to say it was kind of... boring. A lot of paperwork processing and waiting, some speeches were good, some not so much. The oath itself, anthem, and pledge of allegiance were the highlights for me.

Oh, and I registered to vote on my way out because it was National Voter Registration Day!

*updated your info on tracker:-) Haha I wondered if Oath Ceremonies could feel a bit long at times (kinda like graduation ceremonies). How awesome it must be to be done though:-D And how surreal and cool to now be registered to vote! Congratulations again, and thank you for sharing your experience with us 🙂
