I hate to break it to you...no Nik Naks! Introduced my fiancé (Herschell) to them last year and he fell in love - he told me at the airport that he missed me...and Nik Naks...already! 😆😆

I’m planning on taking a thousand - and yeah, $4 for 120 isn’t bad actually...though I am awkward and drink decaf, so guessing it’ll be harder to get hold of?

Courtney (fianceé) said the same last time I took her to heathrow regarding walkers prawn cocktail. She had packed a tube of Pringles but had eaten them way before boarding time....🤦‍♂️

I'll have to see what she thinks of nik-naks. Just to make sure she's as sad as I am when we realise they're not available!

I'm sure LA will have decaff though!

This feels like the most stereotypical Brit conversation ever, discussing our need for proper tea 😆😆😆

I just love how this has gone from:

"I've sorted my taxes and debts" , "Make sure you sortout your loans and banking details"  to "There's cheap tea, it's good tea, there's lots of tea....we need tea, oh and HP sauce too with crumpets, don't worry it's not all dark over here. But be warned their chips (i still get caught out at food places ordering a sandwhich and it comes with 'chips' so I don't order fries!) selection is poor!"

Haha, yep, been there many times...Herschell now reminds me (“that comes with crisps by the way”)...but anyway, this is all important stuff to think about when you’re packing and prepping to go...taxes...contracts...bank accounts...Nik Naks...😆

"An army marches on its stomach" and all of that, right?!

It's the thing I meet Courtney with every time off the plane, crisps and chocolate. A breakfast of champions!

I'll give Halifax a call or pop in over the weekend and hopefully they're the same as Barclays. Still toying with my phone, I'm really torn. It would be a nice upgrade for a family member so we'd be able to video call for free, but saving a chunk of money on buying an additional line on my fiancee's plan does sound lovely.

I'm just going to leave the car with my Mam should anything happen to either her's or my Dad's. Change of ownership will be sent end of March just to be sure as come Mid-April I won't really need one and will just place myself as a named driver until I get of here!

Pension I'm not too sure but that's a good one actually thank you! Currently writing an email to them now to see if I'm able to withdraw it to set  up a new policy over the pond and if so what do they charge. I mean there isn't much in it but we'll see. I'm with Scottish Widow with a work placed pension so I'm not too optimistic on them.

Hey, will you please let me know what your pension company say about withdrawing/transferring?

I'm with Aegeon and they’ve told me that I can’t do either and just need to keep my pension here and then I can withdraw it at earliest 55...that’s 25 years from now, I’ll have probably forgotten about it by then 😂

I'll definitely let you know. I imagine mine will tell me the same, or say I can withdraw it in the US paying taxes on both at the time. Like you say you'll probably forget and I'm sure they'll want us to forget like I bet 1,000s do!

I’m with you both on this and I’m adding in vimto (potentially a northern thing!) and salt and vinegar discos 😍

I love Branston pickle with cheese and crackers so may need to add that to my list! Haha

I have some Typhoo decaf from the grocery store. Don't remember the price.

Now that's a Brit number for sure. I drink coffee quite a lot, plus they always have perculated coffee and not instant there so that makes it even better for me

No coffee for me. My wife can't understand the instant coffee thing in the UK. We have to buy a jar when my Mum comes because she doesn't like the real thing brewed in the coffee pot. After my wife's first visit to me in the UK, she bought me a Keurig single serve brewer after she figured out this was going to be a relationship and she would be returning.

Hopefully all of you will find new things you love. I'm all in for big steaks, beef fajitas, BBQ brisket as staples. But I still use Colman's on BBQ sandwiches. I call it my yellow BBQ sauce.

Oh, definitely - I mean, Skips are nice, but I’m sure I can forgo them for proper burritos, with avocado that’s actually ripe, rather than the rubbish ones we get here! 😆

Forgot about mustard - need English mustard powder for piccalilli-making - will I struggle to get it there?

We find powdered mustard in both grocery stores we use.

Oh no, Vimto is amazing and I’m from the East Midlands! You can get the tiny, travel bottles of Vimto that are super diluted (in the squash aisle in supermarkets) - I took a couple with me when I lived there in 2017 - but discovered Lipton Iced Tea sachets and loved them (though find it bizarre making squash from powder!)...

Yeah the instant coffee thing revolts Courtney but thankfully I love the brewed Coffee so that's always a plus. That's it, Culver's, Wendy's, Mongolian BBQ place we found, I love all the steaks and what not so I'm pretty safe.

Yellow BBQ Sauce, love it! I'll be stealing that!

Lipton Iced Tea, I forgot about them. There's so many things I can't wait for now

Y'all mentioned this thread so I had to come find it. 😂 I think at uni I drank PG Tips, but I didn't stay hugely impressed with that. First I think I went with Tetley British Blend, then Ahmad Tea English No.1 (in bulk, so a box of 24 boxes of 100 tea bags came to $3 per 100 bags). Nowadays my main thing is Newman's Own Organics Royal Tea. (Haven't had to pay much above $3 yet.) But I haven't had a cup of tea in Britain in over six years. 😟 I wonder how my taste buds have changed. Or how products have changed. 😫

If you have a UK bank account with an ISA, drop it.

Next time I'm in the UK, if I go into my building society and ask to close my ISA (which has, like, £3 in it), will they ask me a bunch of questions? I don't think I told them I was moving abroad. 🤔

Did you ever declare it on taxes? If you live in the US, you cannot contribute money to an ISA. Based on complicated regulations regarding ISAs several expats and my CPA recommended my husband close his ISA before he even arrived in the US. Did you notify the HMRC that you were moving abroad at the time? https://www.telegraph.co.uk/investing/isas/ask-expert-can-still-have-isa-move-abroad/

You can see expats discussing this here and there are many threads about it. There are many different types of ISAs so what you can do with them vary. https://britishexpats.com/forum/usa-57/expat-friendly-isa-accounts-891951/page2/

Hey @StaceF so I finally got a response, mine is with Scottish Widows and they've told me the same. I can transfer it to QROPS but I have heard the fees on them are ridiculous not to mention my pension pot isn't much to retire on...I could retire comfortably on it now, for around a month 😂

So just going to leave it here, who knows we may return at some point and I'll just transfer it across then
