Hey everyone! Thanks for all of the terrific responses....I will be, probably yet tonight, checking out each of the websites you mentioned. They all sound really great! I'm starting to get really stoked for this now, and I really hope I can keep that feeling up...although I know for a fact there will likely be more days than not that I'll be going UGHHHHHH! instead. :P

I read through each and every response here twice now...and I wanted to reply to some people, but I just don't feel like it at the moment, tbh, heh....but I appreciate all of you taking the time to try to help/encourage me! I think I will start a VJ LOSERS ;):P thread that we can treat sort of like the Baby corner thread to keep each other up to date on our progress or just discuss...that was a great idea they had, and I think it would work for us too! I know I could make a group brnidokiegurl, but I would rather just do it on here....don't really feel like dealing with a new online group, and just think it would be way easier for me to log on/come here since I do already than having to join another forum. I have too many places to visit already, and have been cutting back on Internet time, actually. :P With VJ, FBI, job searching online, BBC, email, and a couple of friends I try to keep up chatting with, that's more than enough to try to balance as it is...and I haven't done a very good job of keeping up with it all lately....the job search is MUCH more important right now! (DOH, right??) ;)

Anyway, thanks again and let's try to keep one another motivated....I really hope to be able to say that I'm 50 pounds or so lighter by the time winter arrives! :) M.

The best tip I can give on dieting if you don't want to spend any money is creating an account at Sparkpeople.com

It's a great site, full of tools to help you, and it's completely free.

I quit 9 years ago after smoking 2 packs a day all my life. I used nicorette gum and still use it because the first time I quit I started again a couple years later when alot of stress came along! I also gained lots of weight (food tastes so much better doesn't it?) and still have issues with it. I also had back, feet, problems, etc. That motivated me to lose (pain) but not soon enough. I have spinal disease and need a huge surgery one day in order to stop all the pain. I am not saying the weight caused it totally, but I know it pushed it along alot faster.

Losing weight is never easy, and you are right in saying you have to get the "mindset". It definiety will not work unti that happens. I am waiting to get that again at the moment to lose 20 pounds gained in the past couple months due to stress and steroids for the back (increases the appetite immensely!)

Wait for that mindset and then do what works for you!! Weight Watchers has a great program. I am like you in that I eat really healthy, just too much!! WW has a program that allows you to eat as much as you want to be satisfied and not stuffed of certain foods. I am heading there soon. The weekly weigh in helps too and the motivations from others!

Good luck to you and keep in mind, you might want to get an MRI on that back now to see what kind of damage has been done. And, when tempted to eat something bad, remember that the pain just gets worse until you can not walk some days and you can no longer have the quaity of life you deserve!! Congrats on quitting smoking and don't ever be tempted to go back!! It's the best thing you have ever done in your life!!

Michelle-

Good On Ye for going aftyer your goals,

In addition to diet I reccomend you start a resistance training routine.

By Building Muscle you improve your Body's Ability to burn more calories in a 24 hour period ( in other words Increase metabolism Muscle = Fat Burning Machinery).

Also take in steps a little increas ein energy expenditure over a set period of time, then periodically increase intensity of Weight training and Cardio , in no time you will see positive PERMANANT results.

Too much calorie deprivation leads to your body retaining calories as it feels Famine is set in, there is a fine balance to adequate calorie intake and depriving muscles of needed calories in maintain normal metabolism and Cellular Health.

See Link below

Smoking causes Muscle Atrophy ( Decrease in muscle tissue, cells die due to lack of proper Oxygen and nutrients, so it is very importanat that you start some sort of light to moderate strength training program.

I use calorie-count.com including the toolbar they have for firefox called the eat meter. Jonny showed me this site. As you can see from my weight ticker in my siggy, it's working! Here's my profile if anyone wants to add me as a friend http://www.calorie-count.com/calories/view...p?userid=400933 there you can see some before and after pics, see my progress and read what I have eaten for the day in my journal.

I was 192 when I joined on 11 April and today I weighed in at 182.5 :D I started off at 236 2 years ago :(

Here are some of my methods:

1. I stoped drinking regular Coke, if I have a Coke now, which is pretty rare now mostly as a treat... it's Coke Zero.

2. I drink bottled water with crystal light on the go instead.

3. I eat about 200 calories every 2 hours. At my weight, height and caloric needs that's 7 meals a day.

4. I budget meals, if I know I'm going out to eat my 200 calorie meals shrink to 100 calorie more or less to compensate for a possible 500 calorie meal so I am still meeting my 1400 calorie goal.

5. I am a lazy ######, sometimes I get on my stationary bike but most times I watch TV sitting on my big rubber ball. that helps build core muscles. The more mucle you build, the more muscle there is to burn fat. I also walk as much as I can, take the stairs blah blah blah. That big rubber ball is more fun though :P

6. I personaly weigh myself every day, that may not be good for everyone. Another way to see results is to measure yourself. I have a spread sheet where I weekly measure my waist, hips, thighs, arms and bust. when you see an increase on the scale but see a decrease on the measurements, then you know you are doing it right since muscle weighs more than fat.

7. start off with small goals, I am only interested in loosing about 10 lbs at a time for now. when I get down to 179.5 then my next goal will be 169.5, as you can see, I am 3 lbs away from my goal today.

8. eat more protein than carbs, just don't cut them out all together, I try to keep my carbs under 100 a day, if I go over, oh well I will try again tomorrow.

It's already time for me to eat another 200 calorie meal but I'm not even hungry yet. This would be a time for a small 200 calorie chocolate bar. it's small, a treat, and keeps the metabolisim moving. two hours from now I will be hungry for a real meal. it's all about moderation, you never have to go with out. I don't!

I would also love to be a part of the VJ Losers team! :D

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."
