depending on the documents and if they need to be researched

a week ,  2 weeks,   a few months   even a year

one man has his passport at a embassy for a year now and still in AP

but not knowing what the documents are as they can be simple like an original of birth certiifcate or as complex as the ds5535,    we can not give u a definite timeline

should not be a year

but like i said it has happened

read reviews

and you do not say what documents

this is the important part

simple or a security check?

doesn't matter that they have your passport when they do the security ds5535 as they do not want you to do any traveling to make their invesigation harder

so what documents?

then the VJ community can give you a better idea

simple one ?  a week or 2

even faster if all they need is original for their computer records

don't get discouraged just say what documents

we can not answer the unknown

and best to u as keeping passport is good news

If it is a DS5535 you can expect a year or more.

What documents did they ask for?.

Ok that is pretty basic.   But because it it Pakistan you can still expect some time in Administrative Processing.

Dear Awais , Give them aleast 3 month or more before you can send an email about your case status Admin process is normal in Pakistan I did submit my documents March 2014 and I got replay back from Embassy Sep 4 , so be patient and u will get it just keep checking your case status online and hopefully you hear good news cos they keep your passport and waiting for review the documents before they made discussion on your case  .

Good luck
