My wife entered the USA on Dec. 19, 2017. Her green card arrived approximately two weeks ago but still no social security card. I checked the box on the DS260 indicating that we wish it to be sent.

We went to the Social Security Administration a little over a week ago and they advised us to wait until Feb 1 and come back in if it still hasn't arrived. Yesterday, we returned and the representative told us that, because of the length of her name, he cannot look her up in the system (her entire name will not fit in the spaces). He said that he could process an application but it would risk her getting two social security numbers, which could cause an issue with Homeland Security.  I'm sure he is right and we thanked him for the warning. He advised to call USCIS (and possibly the Embassy) to track the card. I would have called yesterday but my wife was so upset that she asked me to let it go until Monday. I also read on the USCIS website that it takes around 6 weeks to get the SSN card. So, I will call USCIS next week if it hasn't arrived.

Has anyone else has had these issues? It is confusing that so many others who checked the box on the DS260 had to go to the SSA to apply for a SSN card.

hi

get a supervisor, not that person that has no idea. if the ss card doesn't come within 2 or 3 weeks of arriving in the US, it will never come, she could have applied last year at the office. request for someone who does know what they're doing at the office

Although I checked the box on the DS260 I did not receive my ss card. After two weeks I went to the ss office and a ss card was issued to me.
