Hello All!

This coming Tuesday the 29th of January I have an interview for the IR-1 Visa in Amsterdam. My wife is currently here in the Netherlands with me. Should my wife coming with me to the interview? And will she be able to come with me to the interview? And if that is possible would you recommend that she goes with me? Or is it better if it is only me that is going to the interview?

Thank you!

You need a Consulate specific answer.  Most Consulates don't allow the petitioner to attend the interview.  Not sure if Amsterdam is one of the exceptions.

The consulate is open to anyone with an appointment or for US citizens needing help while in a foreign country. Neither one applies to her, so be prepared for her to be turned away.

She will likely be turned away.  That being said, the embassy is in a great location.  You could try.

I was sitting here in the US, knowing my husband had a 30 minute train ride home after he was done, looking at live streaming webcams all around the area trying to spot him walking so I could estimate time to a phone call.  If I were there I would have at least tried to go with him, and having been turned away I would have gone a pre-arranged nearby spot like a coffee shop (not the marijuana kind) and waited for him to join me there.   But I'm an impatient worry-wart.  ;)

Amsterdam does not allow anyone else then the beneficiary coming in to the interview. She can wait in one of the many cafe's around it tho.

Thank you for your replies! My wife waited at a cafe close by. I had a nice CO that interviewed me. He was strict, but friendly. I was given the 221g because they wanted to see the Tax transcript of the co-sponsor. I submitted the tax transcript last monday and the visa was issued today :D
