AP is a normal process after the interview. Everyone goes through some time in AP because it’s a catch-all term for all the paperwork that gets done after the interview (final security checks, printing the visa, etc). The next stage after AP is “issued”. So AP covers everything between interview and issued.

It is possible, due to your location, that you will spend longer in AP than others. It all depends on what checks need to be completed and how long they take. Could be days, could be weeks, could be months, could be years. However, the fact that they kept your passport is a good sign.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Now a US citizen!

Why it is in Washington

That is the reply they sent me, maybe DS 5535 is being processed abroad, I’m not sure. And my last status update of NIV AP was on 21 Jan.
