So, the current plan is to wait in Moscow to pick up visa/passport 3-5 days (whatever) and leave from SVO to LAX.

? is has anybody done or tried and if so what was your experience?

It would seem to me that unless you've go somewhere you can stay in Moscow indefinitely, and are either willing to purchase tickets on extreme short notice or flexible fare tickets, this would be chancy.

It's very hard to know for sure how long it will take to go from interview to visa in hand, after all.

Yes, I counted on that and had tickets on the 5th day after. Had to postpone because it is almost never really 3-5 days, but more like 7-10. There were "lucky" people who waited for several weeks though..

I not counting at it being 7.333 days which was the mean. The time range was from 3 day to 15 days. If it takes staying in a hotel in Moscow 20 days its not a problem (the break even point for both of us to fly back to her place and back to Moscow is about 15 Days. Aeroflot has a flex fair which I can select return date date when were ready to go).  The 7.333 day was a point of Ref only and have not based anything on that because you never know. We plan on having a nice time exploring Moscow. Some how my questions got lost in all this.  Nobody has yet to answer my question

"So, the current plan is to wait in Moscow to pick up visa/passport 3-5 days (whatever) and leave from SVO to LAX, ? has anybody done or tried and if so what was your experience?

"Maybe I had a poorly worded request.

Lena T, So it sounds like you did wait in Moscow after interview.  How did you you let the Embassy staff know you were going to pick up Visa at the Embassy. Another option is to give them the address of the hotel were staying at.

Thanks

Your question isn't a question really. Are you asking if people are waiting for their passports in Moscow or what? Some do, some don't. Many people come to the interview and then return home and pack and wait there.

What stage of the process are you at?

You can't get your passport from the embassy. All the passports are delivered by Pony Express Service to either the pick-up point in Moscow or the address you include while scheduling an interview.
