if you are waiting for interview, how do you know you will need DS5535?

and your wife can submit a request to NVC to have it expedited and give a reason for expedite, NVC sends it off to the embassy they will either approve the expedite or deny it.

He's asking how to avoid getting a DS5535 at the interview. NVC has already approved the expedite.

@Frank ben I'm not sure there's anything you can do to avoid getting that dreaded form. It seems they are handed out at random. Some say they target people from specific areas and people that have traveled outside of their home country at some point. But there are plenty others who've been given the form and they don't even fall under that criteria.

there is no way to really know if you will get it or not, what country are you from and have you traveled out of your country at all?
