i have a question regarding processing times

my processing time shows the completion of my n400 as may 2020. does that mean that the entire process will be finished by that date meaning oath completion or will i have an interview around may 2020?

That timing estimate just refers to time before your interview.

However, experience here has shown that those timing estimates really mean virtually nothing.

Just to add to that, you will have a different processing time after your interview.  E.g. my processing time before my interview was January 2020, after my interview September 2019.  But like Leo said, those estimates do not mean much.

You will be in for a big disappointment when you go in for your N-400 before I-751.

Hi, thank you for sharing this information! I have my I-751 interview in May. So wait and see what my IO would say next Monday on my N-400 interview if I have to come back after I-751 interview.

@yumty Why do you think the combo interview isn’t happening?  It should happen automatically.  In our case, I sent a letter to the USCIS office that sent the ROC correspondence last and to the interviewing office with copies of the USCIS letters for both cases.

My husband received an email confirming that he will receive a combo interview AND a phone call from the officer that his interview will be a combo.

The ROC interview does need to happen at the same time or your USC will be delayed.

Thank you for giving me a hope that I might have a combo interview! Too bad I couldn't check VJ for a while so I missed your advice to email USCIS...

My husband is coming with me next Monday for N-400 interview (technically he'll be waiting for me outside of the room while I'm having an interview.) so I will bring all the documents and the letter for my I-751 interview from USCIS so we can we ready to have a combo interview!

Interview scheduled for May 22nd!

And I have some questions, if someone can ease my mind..

im filing under the 5 year rule.. I was married to a US citizen for 3 years, got a divorce and was approved for my 10 year GC after that.

I have read that they shouldn’t ask any questions about my marriage but can they? Should I take all the documents I still have like marriage certificate, divorce decree, taxes..

Also, should I take my taxes from 2018 to the interview? (Only doc I didn’t upload because I didn’t have it when I filed).

Anything else besides what states in the letter?

I have a trip scheduled to my home country in June/July, so I’m really hoping that the oath ceremony is after that 😩🙏

I’m so excited and nervous!!!

I suspect your Oath Ceremony will be scheduled exactly for some day in June or July.

Definitely take your 2018 tax return with you.  Transcript from IRS website, not just a copy of what you filed.

Thank you for your reply and advice on IRS papers.

In the event of having the oath ceremony right before I travel, I’m thinking about possible options / plans of actions, but I’m not sure if they’ll work:

- can I enter the US with my home country passport and the certificate of naturalization? - I checked USCIS website and googled some and the answer is not 100% clear..

- how fast is the expedite passport if I decide to make one? I read 2 weeks but also people who got it in 1 day? - anyone experienced this?

- can I fly to my home country and have my US passport done at an US embassy there?

Any help is appreciated even though I’ll try to confirm answers during this week.

My wife is in same boat.  She goes for Oath Ceremony on Wednesday.  She has wanted to buy ticket to visit her home country in May since way back in January.

But we knew the risk was too great to end up with a ticket covering a time period when she would have her Interview scheduled or have neither her 10 year green card (they take it away at Oath Ceremony) or a US Passport.

So she 'bit the bullet' and is just delaying purchasing a ticket until she has US passport in hand.

This means missing out on good prices on tickets from early purchasing.  But just another cost of going  through this multi-year long process from Immigration to Citizenship.

Regarding your questions:  Trying to come back into USA with your home country passport and Citizenship Certificate definitely won't work.

I had my combo interview yesterday (literally 🙂 ). I didn't get a formal letter from USCIS stating such. However, 2 weeks before my N400 interview, my local office sent me a regular email informing me that I will be having my i751 interview before my N400 and that my husband should be there with me. It was unexpected and very nice of them. Because after receiving my N400 interview notice, I contacted the USCIS asking them about my pending i751 and a potential combo. They never really replied to my original message. A month later, my local office emailed me.

I suggest you contact them. You have nothing to lose.
