Hello!  Does anyone know if I can travel to the US during the CR-1 Visa visa process?  My mother-in-law will be getting married soon and it will be before our visa is final.  Our current stage in the process: we received our DS-261 / AOS Bill, but have not paid it yet.  Thanks in advance for any information!

Many people successfully visit their spouse during the process.  However, it is at the discretion of the CBP officers to grant entry.  You must convince the officer that you will not stay and adjust status.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

I lived in a border city between Canada and the U.S.  and traveled across almost weekly while my application was being processed.  The customs guards would ask where in the process I was at and when I was returning home and send me on my way.

I see you are in France, which is a little different than my situation was, but as missileman said, as long as they don't think you are trying to move into the country prematurely, it shouldn't be a problem.

I would recommend taking copies of all your filing documents with you as well.  Just in case they do ask for more.
