Hello fine folks!

 

I have a question about AOS. So, my fiancée is finally here in the United States via her K-1 visa. We will be getting married very soon at our local courthouse. My question, however, is about the celebration. If one were to have their wedding party (like a small dinner with family and friends celebrating the marriage) before they obtain their actual marriage certificate, would that cause a problem if they were to submit photos of the event as evidence for the AOS package? I know it may sound confusing, so let me try to explain further. Since the party itself would be before the acquisition of the marriage certificate, would that look bad to Immigration to submit photos of the event as evidence of our marriage? By the way, we married through the Orthodox Church first, shortly after she arrived.

USCIS will go by the date on the marriage certificate that you submit. Whether your celebratory dinner is the night before the wedding or a year after the wedding doesn't matter to them. 

 

You already have the K-1 Visa and your fiancée is here. You can have a pre-wedding party to celebrate your forthcoming marriage. Nothing wrong with that and the photos that result from it.

01/25, 2018]  - DAY 015  (day 2164) (US Passport) Passport in hand (5 years, 11 months, 3 days from start of Journey.)

 

AOS, N-400, & PASSPORT FOR DAUGHTER [OF HUSBAND TO USC]

[06/14, 2013] - DAY 001 Mailed package to Chicago Lockbox via USPS overnight
[11/21, 2013] - Day 153 SSN and 10-year GC in hand

09/01, 2021]  - (day 3001) (US Passport) Passport in hand (8 years, 2 months, 18 days from start of Journey.)

I appreciate your prompt response. Due to our tradition (culture), we married religiously (Church) shortly after she arrived here in the United States. Now, we will marry legally through my local courthouse. Thank you so much. ^_^

10/14/21 (havent heard anything... when do i start to get worried?)

I agree, with the majority point-of-view, I don't see any issues with this considering she is here on a valid K1.  A ceremonial religious wedding followed by an official courthouse wedding should be just fine as this is what is expected from a K1.
