i’m moving to the US in a couple of weeks and as the day gets closer, I get more and more terrified. I’ve been overwhelmed with sadness & fear about leaving my family and not being able to see them for a long time. Dont get me wrong here, i am ECSTATIC to start my life with my fiancé / my soon-to be hubby. He is the most amazing person in my life & i’m so lucky to have him. But I can’t shake this fear and overwhelming guilt / sadness. My family since day 1 have taken the news of me moving real hard & it’s taken a big toll on them too (as expected) but all its done is make me feel 100x worse. 

 

Im just really struggling atm with my emotions and any advice from people who’ve moved across the pond already and have felt similar to how I do now, I’d be so, so grateful. 

I went thru your same feelings when my wife and I decided to I moved to Colombia from my country Cuba and make the Whole CR1 visa in here...

In my case I arrived alone to a country that I didn´t know, a Social System (Capitalism) that I also didn´t know, with comunication with my family in Cuba mostly by e-mail, a few calls from time to time,and without knowing no one here (My sister in law) but she´s life is highly busy!

And....here I´m one year after, alive, waiting to attend my interview in August and finally moving with my wife and my son...

What I told you with my words above, yes, it´s normal that you feel like that, but, you can, I did it, alone, you are going to be with your future husband, everything is going to be ok...Keep your mind easy and quiet..

February 2016: We met in our jobs.

May 31 2016: We became a couple. :dancing:

August 16 2016: Engaged.

October 20 2016: ¡OUR WEDDING! Wooohooooo !!!!:dancing::dancing::dancing::wub:  :wub: :wub: 

CR-1 Visa Journey ... Service Center: Nebraska. Embassy: Bogotá , Colombia.

(I - 130 USCIS stage) :

Monday, August 21 2017 (Day 1) :  I - 130 sent. 

Monday, August 28 2017 (Day 7) : NOA 1  (Received via e-mail and SMS).  :dance:

Tuesday, September 05 2017 (Day 15) :  NOA 1  (hard copy I-797 received thru post mail) (PD Aug 24 2017).

Tuesday, March 13 2018 (Day 201) : USCIS issues RFE to our case . (Case opended at least) .:dance: 

Saturday, March 17 2018 (Day 205) : USCIS RFE  arrived via post mail.

Monday, March 19 2018 (Day 207) : USCIS RFE ´s answer was sent via post mail to NSC .

Thursday, March 22 2018 (Day 210) : Online Case Status changed to RFE´s answer was received .

Monday, April 2 2018 (Day 221) : ¡Approved! Online Case Status now shows Case was sent to Department of State.:dance::dancing:

 

(NVC Stage) :

Wednesday, April 4 2018 (Day 223) : Case Received.

Tuesday, June 5 2018 (Day 285): Case Number assigned, welcome letter received,invoice number received, DS261 filed.

Thursday, June 7 2018 (Day 287): AOS fee paid, waiting IV package fee to be unlocked to pay it.   

Thursday, June 14 2018 (Day 294): DS-261 checked and received letter, IV package fee now unlocked. 

Friday, June 15 2018 (Day 295) : IV fee paid, waiting DS-260 to be unlocked to fill it online. 

Monday, June 18 2018 (Day 298) : Full Package sent to NVC via post mail. 

Tuesday, June 19 2018 (Day 299): DS-260 unlocked to fill it online.

Wednesday, June 20 2018 (Day 300): DS-260 filled online.

Thursday, June 21 2018 (Day 301): Scan Date.

Monday, July 2 2018 (Day 312):  Case Completed and ready for an Interview.

Friday, July 13 2018 (Day 323): Interview Letter Received.:dancing::dance:

Monday, July 23 2018 (Day 333): Case Left NVC.

Monday, August 6 2018 (Day 347): Blood Test and chest X rays. (Done)

Wednesday, August 8 2018 (Day 349): Medical Exam. (Done)

Wednesday, August 15 2018 (Day 356): Biometrics in the Solicitant Atention Center. (Done)

Wednesday, August 22 2018 (Day 363): Interview... Approved! :dancing::dance:

Wednesday, September 19 2018 (Day 393): P.O.E thru Miami International Airport!!! :dancing::dance:

I’ve read the comments here! Please no one think I’m ignoring! Just been sooooo so busy these past few days. Just an update: POE is today & i’m honestly PETRIFIED. Like, so nervous and feel so sick. Can’t believe the day is actually here! (6AM right now and I’m exhausted lol). Once I’m safe and sound in the states I’ll reply to the comments here individually 💛

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I totally understand you're nervous about this.

I moved all the way here from Hong Kong, I leave everything behind (like my family, my friends...etc) and I still get homesick sometimes.

But I'm lucky that my new family here they take care of me, they called me to ask me if i want to hang out with them, message me to see if I'm doing okay or not...

And my husband introduces me to all his friends (let me make some new friends here).

So, I can say, from time to time, you will feel much better. :)

  • (Day 1) May 16 2018 - Mail arrived Chicago Lockbox (confirmed by USPS) 
  • (Day 19) Jun 04 2018 - Received email & SMS notification - case received (All money orders being cashed on this day)
  • (Day 24) Jun 09 2018 - Received all receipts (NOA) from USCIS, also the Biometrics Appointment letter (Appointment date: Jun 18) 
  • (Day 33) Jun 18 2018 - Arrived Helena ASC at 9.15am (Appointment at 10am), finished at 9.35am (Yea it was super quick!)
  • (Day 35) Jun 20 2018 - Received SMS & Email notification request for evidence for my I-485
  • (Day 40) Jun 25 2018 - Courtesy letter for I-693 (Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Record) received
  • (Day 61) Jul 16 2018 - Case status of I-485 changed to "Case is Ready to Be Scheduled for An Interview"
