1-864 Tax Question

Hello.

 

I have prepared my forms and taxes for 2017 and 2016 to use for my 1-864 visa sponsorship for my husband. However, I did not file taxes in 2015 as I was still a student and dependent on my parents then. Should I include their taxes? Or will the two years suffice? Thank you.

Just check the box that says you didn't file for the last 3 years and include the statement as to why and you'll be fine. I was in a similar situation and had no problems.

Agreed with the above.

I'd just add that just because you were a dependent on somebody else's taxes doesn't mean you weren't required to file. If you had no income (or income below a minimum threshold), then you are still required to file even if you didn't owe anything.

I think geowrain meant to use the word "Unless" instead of "If" to begin the last sentence above.
