in our case, they called it in and confirmed that i was the beneficiary. the girl outside, who was taking the passport and visa appointment letter didnt even ask me anything. I may be mistaken, but they cannot refuse you entry to the Embassy since it is US soil. Keep in mind that they may separate you at the interview at discretion of the Embassy. Not the case in Kiev. There where 2 windows we approached and in both I was besides my fiance and even talked to the CO and person who took our packet

Hi there guys.  Where do we apply for the Police Certificate for my fiancee?  She lives in Kharkov and obviously the embassy is in Kiev.  Does she simply go to a police station and ask for this doc?

Special Seal(s) / Color / Format: Effective January 1, 2015 Police certificates are issued on secure professionally printed letterheads. They used to be produced on a laser printer on regular office paper of A5 format.  Bears a wet seal and a signature of the Department’s head

Registration Criteria: There is no registration criteria

Procedure for Obtaining: In Ukraine the certificate must be obtained in the regional centers from the Departments of Information Technology at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, or in the local MIA service centers. Detailed information and sample in Ukrainian is available at this website.

Applicants (or thirds persons with POA, on their behalf) request the records by submitting a written request at the local Department (or Embassy/Consulate if abroad).  The applicants must bring the original and a copy of a passport document.  Usually it takes up to 30 days to get the results.

Alternate Documents: There are no alternate documents

Comments: For immigrant and K visa processing the police certificates must include all previously used names and surnames. In order for a police certificate to include all the previously used names and surnames, the requestor must specifically state so. The applicants then must make sure all these names appear on the police certificate.

This is the link I was sent by my fiance. She said you don't need an apostille and if you pay the $20 fee you can get it in 2-5 days and be done with it.

The birth certificate translation can be done at any time, even before receiving the case number from NVC, right?
And the translation doesn't need to be notarized, correct?

That is correct, but you may need it translated for and when you get your social security here in the US. Don't wait for last minute.

Sorry if this is off-topic, but I need to update my fiancee's mailing address.
Two old threads (1, 2) suggest to do that after the NVC has our case.

As per another suggestion I read somewhere else, I'm going to request an update by calling them and also mailing them, but I can't figure out what address to use:

But K-1 is in the non-immigrant sections on some sites, on others in immigrant...

when you get your nvc case # you can put the address for delivery of your passport. the beneficiaries address doesnt really come into play nowhere other than that

I'm not sure we are on the same page with you...

 

Let me rephrase:

I'm a U.S. citizen, and I'd like to update my fiancee's mailing address because, in my understanding, the embassy/consulate will send my fiancee the instructions to that address.

I am the USC and received a letter with NOA-2 at my home from USCIS. NVC also send me an email notifying me that the case was ready. I signed up to receive email notifications from USCIS. My then fiance, now wife, also got a email from the Kiev embassy on how to proceed with the necessary step and whatnot to bring to the interview.

@JustNathan it may be a little different in what ever country you fiance is... In Kiev they only do email that i know of. The only time the beneficiary needs to do anything with her address is at the time of filing I-129F and then at the time she gives her address for delivery of her passport with the k-1 visa. Hope this helps

Oh, that is interesting... I don't think I knew there was such an option for a beneficiary to receive emails.

Whom/how/where did you provide with your fiancee's email?

Someone correct me if i am wrong, please. I think we filed for the G-1145 form with the I-129F to get email notification from USCIS

Yes, she got a email first before i got the email from NVC, now that I asked my wife.

We filed it too, but we only provided my email and phone number, not my fiancee's...

since i went through the process...al you need is to read the Embassy website to follow the steps and have the NVC case #.
