About Approval letter

Hello Guys,

Can I use my Approval Letter to secure an employment as well as renew my driver license or do I need to go for a stamp at the nearest USCIS Local Office? My passport is expired, and I understood from one of VJ members that USCIS will not put a stamp in an expired passport.

Thanks for the replies guys! If I am to renew my passport, it means that I will need to travel back to my home country. How can I travel if I can't even get a stamp in passport? I got the approval letter stating that my case has been approved. I am only waiting for the greencard in the mail.

Hi duitta, can’t you go to your Ambassy to renew your passport. ? 

And you can not travel anywhere with an expired passport, especially nowadays. I renewed mine not too long ago at the French Ambassy. They will just ask for a birth certificate and your old passport a fee and pics that’s all

I know that they say that you may have to wait a long time for your green card, but for most of us it takes less than 2 weeks. You'd probably wait that long for an Infopass appointment anyway!

 

The approval letter doesn't technically provide any immigration benefits, but it might be enough to get the rest of the paperwork on your employment moving along. Probably not the DL though. An employer might see the letter and understand that you can probably bring your new card to your first day of work, but the DMV likely won't give you a new DL without seeing the new card.

 

If you do want to get the stamp, as others have said, make an appointment for an Infopass, and bring 2 passport style photos - they will put the stamp on an I-94 form, I believe. However, they might only give you a very short validity period (or refuse to give you one altogether), since that sheet of paper is essentially a green card, and since your new one is probably in the mail, they don't like for anyone to have 2 valid "green cards".

 

If you can possibly wait a week or two, you'll probably have your new card in hand.

just curious in your quote you stated it take less then 2 weeks for Green card is that for ROC or something different. It takes a lot longer then 2 weeks now for ROC

the op has removing conditions underneath name so I am assuming ROC is the same process for everyone  . Maybe it is a different process then what my wife is doing we have been waiting 10 months now

What they meant is that once approved, it doesn't take long to get the new green card in the mail.

Yes - believe me, I know it takes for. ev. er. to get approved... I finally had my senator's office intervene after I'd been waiting 18 months. But once I was approved, it was very fast to get the actual card. There are a few people whose cards don't get sent properly but those cases are outliers. Usually, once the approval happens it's only about 2 weeks to get the card.
