They probably won't schedule them until August. I had my interview 5/31 and they scheduled me for the 7/17 oath.

Yeah I believe if you're 10 days or more before next ceremony day they'll add you otherwise next month

Goes against the experience of at least one people I know, plus myself. As I mentioned, I went for my interview last Friday (5/31) and got scheduled for July 17. There were clearly more than two weeks between my interview and the June oath ceremony.

But maybe we had bad luck. don't know 🤷‍♂️

Oy - yes. I for some reason thought it was on June 16. either way, sadpanda for me for having to wait 1.5 months for an Oath that most cities do same day, or weekly. I can't believe SF is this disorganized.

Has anyone in this thread taken a trip outside of the US between Interview and Oath? I noticed that they ask a question about taking trips on the form for the Oath you have to fill. I wanted to take a trip in late June and they have decided to wait until July for my oath. Any experiences?

I have not but am going to do. I will fly out a day after my interview and return before the July 17 oath that I am still hoping to get.

Got naturalized today! I was a bit surprised by how relaxed the ceremony was. The USCIS officer in charge was telling people to close their eyes, relax and take deep breaths (felt like a yoga class lol) and was cracking jokes as she talked. There were 805 people from around ~ 80 countries! Interestingly, I saw the officer who did my interview there as well examining N445 documents so it looks like the .

A few notes:

- If you submitted name change documents during your interview, make sure you bring a copy of those (court order) documents with you alongside your N445. The officer was happy that I had those with me and said that avoided a delay (especially because my Green Card and N445 had differing names)

- I saw someone next to me inform the officer of travel in between the interview and the ceremony. They brought a photo copy of their passport with exit and entry stamps. So again not super particular there.

- If you are applying for a passport, make sure you do so using the DS-11 that you get when you go to the interview. Apparently, it has special writing on it that says that it is valid for use during the oath ceremony. You have to pay only by money order or check if you are applying there.

- Looks like SSNs can be updated only two weeks after the oath. Some folks were saying you could update your SSN at the oath ceremony in other offices. Looks like that is not the case here in Oakland.

Good luck to everyone else! This has been a looooong journey!

June 12th Oath Ceremony

I took the BART to Oakland and got off at 19th St. The Bart was convenient, not busy as it was off peak timing and was possibly cheaper than parking. The BART station is literally one minute walk from the Paramount Theatre.

Although there were over 800 new citizens, the queues for entry into and out of the ceremony hall were moving very quickly and it was quite well organized. I had a name change (different name on green card and N445 ) but NO proof of name change was requested. I travelled for 3 weeks between my interview and the oath ceremony and again NO proof of travel was requested.

The Keynote speaker was clearly pro-democrat and anti-Trump. When the POTUS video started there was loud booing from the back. I keep forgetting that this truly is a free country. Even the USCIS officers were smiling and unaffected by the booing. Wow! They really do mean it when they say you have freedom of speech. In many self-professing 'free' countries, true free speech is often a privilege.

The geriatric choir that sang a few patriotic songs was hilariously out of tune and out of sync. But the beautiful solo rendition of the Star Spangled Banner made up for the choir and will remain in my mind forever.

Thank you to all at VJ for your posts that kept me informed and helped me plan my life over the last 5 years. Good luck to everyone in the queue. Your turn will surely come. That's me signing off.
