Hello I am trying to gather all my documents for the i-864 but came across the issue of IRS Tax Transcripts.

I tried logging in to the IRS Website to obtain the transcripts online but had an issue (got an error message) obtaining them because it seems that the IRS does not have my IRS Tax Transcript for this year because I recently filed my taxes three weeks ago.

I do have my last 3 years of W-2’s and 2015/2016/2017 tax returns so will those be sufficient along with my most recent pay stubs?

I am not sure if that is okay because I am not sure that if I request for the transcripts via mail that it would take longer for me to send the i-864 since I want to process this asap.

Your responses are greatly appreciated!

My understanding (from a naturalization standpoint though) is that the transcripts can be used in lieu of having your actual tax returns on hand.  Thus, if you have just filed, the fact that you have copies of the original returns will be sufficient.

That said, having transcripts that match up with the returns that you have is probably not a horrible idea, but since you can't get the last one, I would not worry about that one.  Again, note that my experience on this is from the standpoint of a N-400, not an I-864 - the requirements may be different, so you may want to confirm from the instructions or check with a lawyer...

Thanks Kris for your response. I appreciate it. Hopefully others can chime in from experience filing i-864s whether or not tax transcripts are imperative but from what I am gathering it is not but rather helpful to have so.

  • You need to submit taxes and W2’s if you are not using an IRS printout that demonstrates your income.......this was copied off the NVC website so looks like your covered.

I filed my taxes electronically 2 weeks ago.  After receiving my electronic refund, I checked my IRS account and my 2017 tax transcript was available.  I understand that if you file taxes by snail mail, it takes much longer for it to get into the system.
