Can Birth Certificate copy be non-official

I see that I need to send in my (the petitioner's) birth certificate copy with the petition. Can I just use my scanner at home, make a copy front and back?  Or does it need to be something more official?

My fiance did that when we submitted our petition before. He just made a copy of it. We received our NOA2 without any problem regarding that

Thank You!  Also for the marriage certificate, its just a normal copy as well correct?  Not a certified copy?

Photocopies of certified copies are what you send in.

You don't need to certify the birth certificate and never send an original official document.  They either verify it during processing or verify the official document when you bring it in at the interview.
