(HELP!) Do I need to renew my Philippines Passport?

So.. I'm a permanent resident and planning to go home (Philippines) this May and I just realized that I still haven't change my last name in my passport, since I got married. 

 

Question:

1. Do I really need to renew my passport to change my last name even though the expiration date of my passport is still in 2020?

2. If not will it be a problem when I return here in the US?

3. Also forgot to Register our Marriage to DFA, what is a good reason to put in the "reason for the delay in registering our/my marriage" section?

1. Do I really need to renew my passport to change my last name even though the expiration date of my passport is still in 2020?  NO you don't have to get a new passport BUT be sure to travel with your marriage certificate in the rare case you need to present a document with your married name attached.

1.  NO need to renew.  You can use your current passport.  Make sure to book your airfare using the name in the passport.  Make sure to carry a copy of your marriage certificate also if your green card is in your married name.

 

2.  Renewing in the USA requires a trip to the consulate nearest you, or catch an outreach event and do it then.  DFA's appointment system is corrupt .. once again... surprise.. so the only way to get an appt is through a fixer.     Aside from the personal appearance the consulate is quicker.

 

3.  Reporting of Marriage is done through the consulate representing the state where you were married.  The consulate then submits the forms to PSA for recording and send you a copy of the recorded document.

 

Can't get the passport in your married name until you have completed ROM

1. You need to do the ROM in order to change the name in your passport to your married name. 

 

2. No, there will be no problem with going to the Philippines and coming back to the USA.  Just make sure you bring your green card and your marriage license with you when you go back. Make sure you show both of those when you arrive at immigration at NAIA, and when you are at the checkout counter when leaving. All tickets have to be in the name in your passport.

 

3. When you finally do the ROM at whatever consulate here in the USA that is jurisdiction of where you got married, you can write down whatever reason you think. We got married in NC but were as living in CA, so the embassy in Washington D.C. was were we had to do ROM. We just put down as us moving for the reason.

Didn't really know I had to do ROM in the first place, until I was searching on how to renew my passport. Don't know any fellow kababayans here too who got married to an american so basically I am clueless of what to do after me and my husband got married. =<

PSA is Philippine Statistic Agency or Authority I can't really remember right now. 

 

 

It's ok we didn't know either and we lived in Los Angeles around a lot of pinoys. Where are you from in a Pinas? Where did you get married at, and where are you living na?

Another Question. For the report of marriage is the name of "witness 1" and name of "witness 2". Are they witnesses for me and my husbands wedding? It confuses me because they're under Husband Parent's and Wife's Parents Section.

Ohh I see. I've been to LA and want to move there because there's a lot of Filipinos! I'm from Cavite. Got married in Tampa,FL and still living here.

Ahh ok then you will have to go through D.C. embassy. Jacksonville Fl has a lot of pinoys as well.

Yes, you name two people that were there. I did one on each side of the paper. It doesn't matter who or what side of the family/friends they are from, they just want 2 people. I just put down my cousin on my side and my ate on my wife's side.

PSA (Formally NSO)  is the records department - cenomar, birth certificate, etc .....     https://psa.gov.ph/

For ROM, as noted by cyberfx, it must be filed through the consulate representing the state where you were married.   Some people do not have witnesses for their wedding, you would leave that blank then.

That's so sad to here that DFA's appointment is corrupt again. =(
