Good evening everyone,

hey Starsky I have a question : I just booked a flight from NYC to Paris in May, for 18 days with my family.

My GC expires March 11th but I got the NOA letter on February 24tg for a year

Iam going to be ok traveling with the expired GC and the letter right?

My husband and 2 kids are Americans and I have my French passport with my maiden name on it though. Should I bring my marriage certificate too? To show my last name is the same as my husband on green card.

omg just realized I booked my tickets with my married name! Shoot!

Need to call the airlines to change it :(((( man I know they are going to charge me since I bought the tickets a day and a half ago!

Arghhhh Iam fuming trying to call Cheapoair!!

I flew to Japan with my husband and daughter right after I got my green card, and when I got to the customs in Tokyo no problems entering, when I was about to leave Japan back to America they asked me for my GC and I gave it to them but when they looked at it it had my married last name on it,. But my passport had my maiden name on it they asked why? But I had my marriage certificate with me so when they saw it was ok to get on my flight. When I got to JFK they didn’t even care about the marriage certificate they looked at the green card scan me through with no problems.

It’s $50.00 box to change the name since I booked 2 flights ( one from Paris to Bordeaux as well to go see my family ) so it’s a $100 box to change the tickets.

Imagine I didn’t post and didn’t think about it I would have lost almost a thousand dollars because I would lose all my tickets!

Well they changed it that’s what matters!

Just a follow up, they still have not cashed my check. .

My package was signed for E. Barr at the CSC Feb 26th. (Mailed from Chicago)

Hopefully by the end of the week I'll have good news. Fingers crossed.

Did you sign up for USPS informed delivery? It's a useful tool while you're waiting this one out. As I said in a prior post, I think it is interesting how Vermont has really slowed down these past two or so weeks vs. the flying start it had.

I've added you to the tracking table. Good luck to you!

Thank you so much ! Not sure if that makes a difference, but I mailed my package on February 21st and it was received on the 23rd according to the tracking number.

It does make a difference, especially for those still waiting for their NOAs, so thank you for confirming that. I've updated it.

I sent off my paperwork February 5th and it reached CSC on February 7th. I got my NOA1 around the 9th I believe (I was in the UK at the time). Hoping to visit family again for Christmas as my son will be a year and 4 months and much more interactive this time around but I still feel funny thinking about travelling with an extension letter.

What are the processing times like these days? I've heard it's pretty backed up and that a lot of people are applying for Naturalisation before getting approved for the I-751.

1

You will be fine traveling on your extension letter. See this thread for more information on that. And processing times, you'll be looking at 18 months or so on current timescales. Naturalization eligibilty will likely come up prior to receiving your approval for I-751, so that's an option for you, should you choose it.

hey Starsky I have a question : I just booked a flight from NYC to Paris in May, for 18 days with my family.

Iam going to be ok traveling with the expired GC and the letter right?

My husband and 2 kids are Americans and I have my French passport with my maiden name on it though. Should I bring my marriage certificate too? To show my last name is the same as my husband on green card.

4

I think you answered your own question, but just to be sure, yes, you can definitely travel on your extension letter and your expired green card. See this thread for more detail on that point. On your second point, it seems the consensus is to book the flight in your maiden name (that is shown in your passport) and then carry your marriage certificate showing the name change to your married name. Here's a useful thread I found discussing this. I am sure you are already planning to update your passport, but in case you aren't, I would try to do that as soon as you can so as to avoid "risking it":

You probably take the biscuit for having the fastest NOA1 turnaround out of the Feb filers! :D

I see they have cashed your check now which is a relief for you. Slowing up for the end of the month, it seems. Perhaps they have met their quota for Feb..... let us know when your NOA drops. Sign up for USPS informed delivery if you're super anxious waiting for it.

Thank you Starsky.

Well the thing is I just renewed my passport 6 months prior me getting married. And I can’t even change it to my new married name unless I go to Washington DC’s French Ambassy HQ. just a hassle I don’t really want to deal with

i will just take my marriage certificate with me I guess. As I read that thread u posted, it seems the marriage certificate is the way to go :)
