I have an update. I can't believe it. Our packet is returned today in our mail (shows that they received our packet on 12/26) and the reason is "the proper fee is not attached." #######!!!???? I ordered a cashiers check for $680 so I did not get the amount wrong!!! So are they saying it was not attached?? I'm 100% sure I put the check in the envelop and sent it!!!! My guess is whoever opened my packet lost my check because I put behind the last page of our document!!! And they say since we are to refile they want the new 2017 version form. At least we know what happened...not a December filer anymore :(

also just FYI, the packet they sent back: they took out the only staple we used (we didn't use any paper clips and folders because I heard that they don't like any) and just two rubber bands to put our files together and the envelop wasn't even completely sealed. They also put all our photos in a small plastic bag.

My NOA date is on 12/18/2017 and still waiting for biometrics! It is getting a bit frustrating! Do you think it is normal waiting for that long?

Your not alone

Did you put the check on top of ur pocket and clip it? How come  they lost it... my pocket was also returned but it was on a very nice box n completely sealed... the only thing that they took off from my pocket all the clips n folders but it was filled nicely...

No I didn't clip it and I put in on the bottom of the packet cause that's the order in our cover letter...and it's a usps envelop but ripped a little that's what I meant by not sealed completely.

when you sent yours back did you include the original forms you sent them? Cause it says we have to include the NOA we got (the paper explaining why the packet was returned) but that NOA they stapled with our original forms and was stamped with receiving date. I'm not sure if we only have to put new version forms with that paper or with all our original forms too?

Our problem in our pocket is to change form to newer version... so all i did is to download a newer version n put it on top, oh except the notice coz it should be on top of everything then sealed it n send it back. I didnt took the the origal form coz it was been printed RECORDED

Oh no!  Keep checking to see if the money order was cashed.  You may be able to cancel it and get a partial refund.  But if it is cashed, that’s time for criminal investigation!

When we sent off our money order, I always had the bank print off the name of the payee for protection.  When we were sending off the AOS, we got back from running errands and I was getting ready to send off the package and I couldn’t find the money order!  My heart sank because we were having a hard financial time in those early months and that was a big chunk of money!!  I almost cancelled it, thinking we lost it, and doing so would have cost a large cancellation fee.

I really hope you can recoup some of the money from the money order!!!  Keep us posted!!

Signature coming soon...

It's not good news, but at least you know what's going on and can work quickly to resubmit it and get it moving along again.

I'm putting my packet together again but when I read the thing they sent me I think what they meant was that the amount on the check was wrong. I put $680 on one check. Any ideas?

It says "the proper fee is not attached. Please compare the amount you have sent with the amount required."

im really confused. I sent one check $680. I checked my bank account and that's exactly how much was taken from my account when I ordered a cashiers check. So they want two checks?! They did not return my original check so I cannot see. But it certainly is $680.

Why is this his happening to me????!!!

I believe that the package cashier's check was lost because it was placed in the bottom of the documents. I placed mine by following the forum's sample, I slipped with a transparent pocket holder and punched on the very first page for their convenience.

Ur still on our December list! I'll just put a note to that.

Visit the bank asap right now and try to get your money back.

As for the second filing, remember to write a personal check instead just for safety.

If you would like, don't forget to use a flat rate USPS box, with express priority, it costs 18.85USD, if you're sending on weekends, express priority is not needed, priority will be good enough. If you want, you can ask for a return receipt and certified mail. I did that by adding 3 dollars to it. Oh yes the box is quite filmsy inside, there's some spaces, so what I did was, I stuffed some bubble wrap stuffs or paper junks to make it in place. I don't want my documents to wobble around.

And yeap you MUST use the new version forms! Don't give them chance to return package! GOOD LUCK!

Don't use staples, the reason is because the officers are required to scan and copy, they need to put these documents into the system in PC. It'll be harder for them. Paperclips are fine, I did not use them though, I used Binder clips for big bank statements stacks and I punched them all with fasteners.

Here's the sample link:

Untitled.png

Here's how my package look, as you can see I used these fasteners, you can get them at office depot or amazon.

I used 4 fasteners for my stack, the black binder clips are a stack of each bank statements, the plastic folder in front page is where I slipped in the check, they can just cut the plastic off instead of removing the fasteners.

As for the highlighted stickers, those are the signed documents such as affidavits.

Hope that helps! Let me know when you're going to submit, I'll definitely still put u on our list!

And I just received an informed delivery that I have USCIS mail incoming, I'm hoping its biometrics, I mean there's nothing else to wait!

Really sorry to hear how tough this is for you.

I think the advice you have got so far is good. Go to the bank and explain and see if you can get the money back. Then resend the application with a personal check. Or even two checks for separate filing and biometrics if it makes you feel better. As for the packet, mine was not nearly as thick as some, maybe 3/4" but I paper clipped each relevant section together and put the whole evidence packet in a folder with an itemized list written on the front. The check and cover letter were paper clipped to the front so the first thing you see is the check on top. I also took a photo of my check and my packet so I could confirm, just for my own sanity, that the payment amount, payee and address were correct.

Good luck, remember you have a lot of support here, for questions or just to vent about the antiquated system we are all forced to use.

@Roy&Chanel @Casprushly Thank you both for the advice! I'll try to send it out again later today. My packet is not as thick either, we used an attorney for the AOS two years ago and he told us to not staple nor paper clip anything and said only send important evidence. I guess I'll paper clip my document this time sending back to make sure the check is not lost.

I include pretty much everything I have to show them, like deed, mortgage statement, tax returns, bank statement, insurance, affidavits, pictures, our wedding program, copy of plane tickets traveling in the country and abroad together. That's it. Hopefully is sufficient since I see a lot of people here have really thick packets.

As for the cashiers check, I think last time I went to the bank they said I can cancel it.

If it weren't for bank statements, my stack will probably be thin too. Look at that big fat stack of binder clips :(

I guess this is because my husband and I don't have the habit of bringing cash since there's alot of random people asking us for cash on streets and outside supermarkets in Atlanta.

All our purchases are used with cards, so our statements are around 7 pages each month per bank without ads!

Definitely put the check in front this time!

Take your time to fill up the new version PDF.
