Good to know.  Thanks!

Raised the fee last Oct too, that was because of the added VD testing.

This time is for a new method of TB testing ( wonder how much quicker this will be?  Quick read says results can be known in 24 hrs.. no 60 days come October) :

This medical fee increase is based on U.S. Public Health Services and the Centers for Disease Control (USPHS/CDC) guidelines and technical instructions to replace Tuberculin Skin Tests (TST) with Interferon Gamma Release Assay (IGRA), a new and more reliable type of blood exam used to detect tuberculosis infection (TB).

When I did my medical at SLEC, I unfortunately had to do the sputum test. I met a lady who was doing the sputum test too only she's going to Australia. She paid 8k+ initially and had to pay another 8k+ for the sputum test. US applicants who have to undergo the sputum test do not have to pay for the test. It's already included in the fee. Which means that all US applicants are paying for a test they don't need.

Does this mean those who are coming after Oct can't cause it's taking too long. Oh.... guess they will complain about the short wait, the added expense and no free hair shampoo.

According to what I read the blood test is completed in 24 hrs.  .. now what to do for the next 59 days.

Someone brought up a valid point... EVERYONE is paying for the TB testing, whether they need it or not.  (must be connected to nobamacare... everyone pays too much so some can get it cheap/free)

It's refreshing to see people make fun of a communicable disease on here. Isn't it fun to see people here on VJ post about their dreadful experience of having to go through the sputum test. Just refreshing.

No one is making fun of TB.  The joke "poked" is at SLEC charging everyone for the TB testing (and is very apparent in the jest of the comments).. whether they need it or not...

I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do.  And for those people that like country music, denigrate means 'put down.'
