Ok, so it's not really a definition, per se, but I found the data to be interesting and thought I'd share in case anyone was curious.

So since it was bantered about in the discussion thread on DACA, and Val was nice enough to provide me with a link, I did a little digging, and here's what I came up with:

YEAR----DEPORTEES-----CRIMINALS-----DETAINEES

2012 ----  419,384       -----    55%       --------   UNK

2013 ----  133,551       -----    82%       --------  235,093

2014 ----  102,224       -----    85%       --------  213,719

2015 ----    69,478       -----    91%       --------  165,935

2016 ----    65,332       -----    92%       --------  174,923

Deportees were captured in the US and deported.

Detainees were stopped at the borders trying to enter illegally.

Criminal % is the number of those actually in the US with criminal convictions.

(Once thing I could find no data on was the number of multiple deportations of the same people having entered more than once.)

Here's a link to the December 2012 letter limiting the reasons a person could be detained for deportation.  (Notice how the numbers dropped from 2012 to 2013, and continue to drop.)

All data portrayed came from: https://search.usa.gov/search?utf8=✓&affiliate=ice.gov&query=FY+2014&commit=Search

No fair,  your dehumanizing the poor people. Be nice and call them undocumented migrants. :protest:

I wonder how many of those deportees with model citizen backgrounds (criminals) left their kids behind to file for DACA

Well, technically, none, since to qualify for DACA, one had to arrive here in 2007.

It WAS interesting to note in the reports, however, a surge in lone children crossing the borders after in 2013 and 2014 (didn't check 2015 and 2016 for this, silly me).  Why?  Because if a child is caught trying to cross the border with an adult family member, they are subject to immediate deportation, sent right back where they came from.

But a child alone without a parent, they are handled differently.  ICE can only hold them for 3 days, then must turn them over to Health and Human Services, whose job it becomes to care for the kids until such a time as they can appear before an immigration judge who decides whether or not they get deported, and this can take months (maybe years?  Dunno, someone here probably has better intel) for a case to come before a judge.  So the US has to care for these additional kids who came over in increasing numbers, all alone.

So I ask... was this a result of the announcement of DACA in late 2012, and the changing of the rules (making it harder for ICE and CBP to deport someone)?  Did the South American parents see a way forward for their kids, while they themselves remained behind?  I can't say for sure, but it seems logical to me.

And for sure this group of kids, who came well after 2007, but who are in a boat much the same color and amount of leaks in it, as the current DACA folks.  Call them DACA 2.0 if you will.  But if somehow the current DACA kids get amnesty, how could we possibly send these kids back?

A line has to be drawn sooner or later or else the country will be facing version 3.0, 4.0 and so on. A decision will have to be made to send a generation back at some point.

The US can't have an open border policy, the argument that the US is a nation of immigrants is a lame one. At this stage most countries in the western world are nations of immigrants.

This is basically how the US handles immigration historically.  A lot of hand wringing and debate for years, then bang, amnesty with promises to shore up the border.  Of course the border is not shored up, people still enter illegally, there is a lot of hand wringing and debate, then bang, amnesty with promises to shore up the border.  You get the idea, Wash, Rinse, Repeat.

Just children doing jobs Americans will not do.

I know it is confusing.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
