Timeline

Please help me i just found out that my spouse has only tax papers for 2016 and not 2017 and we are planning to put in the paper work this month .can i submit for the previous year

They don't ask for 2017 yet. They ask for 3 years. In this case 2014, 2015, 2016. The 2017 ones come after you get approved. However, does she make enough on her own?

Sorry but confused, 2017 taxes aren't done until after 31st December 2017. 2016 taxes covered 1st January 2016 to 31st December 2016 and the most up to date year you can be expected to provide at the moment

2017 tax returns aren't due until next year (and the forms don't even exist yet).

As others have said, you'll only need to provide that 2016 W2/Tax Return, since 2017 year isn't over yet, it wouldn't be possible to provide that anyways.

 

Depending on your income you'll also want to provide either previous year's tax returns (2015, 2014 etc) and/or paystubs as recent as you can. When I filed I provided just my previous year's Tax Return, that same year's W-2, Current Paystubs for the last couple paychecks I'd received, as well as a complete Check History Report I was able to get from my employer with the entire year in summary. 

03/11/2016 Met in person for first time (Talked online for nearly a year prior as friends playing online games)

03/29/2016 Officially started dating

09/29/2016 Engaged

10/20/2016 Married at SF Courthouse

12/14/2016 Mailed I-130, I-485 & I-765

12/20/2016 Delivered at Chicago Lock Box by UPS

01/04/2017 Received NOA via text and email for I-130, I-485 and I-765

01/05/2017 Both checks are cashed

01/09/2017 NOA received in mail for I-130, I-485 and I-765

01/23/2017 Biometrics Appointment notification received (Appt set for 02/02/17)

02/17/2017 I-485 Status updated to "Case is ready to be scheduled for an interview"

03/23/2017 Case Status updated to "EAD Card is being produced."

08/30/2017 Case status updated to "Interview Scheduled"

09/28/2017 Interview! Status updated to "New Card is being produced" shortly after interview!

10/06/2017 Green Card arrived!

I wouldn't recommend this, but in my case. I had access only to bank statements and 2 years prior to my interview, for example: 2013 Tax return and it is 2015.
