Can't tell if this situation qualifies for an expedite.

Hello all.  My brother passed away a couple days ago (both in our 30's).  Does this qualify as a reason to request an expedite?  She is from a non visa waiver country, and from my understanding it is basically impossible to get a visitor visa for her.

I appreciate it. Her being so far away just makes it that much harder to deal with, which is why I was hoping maybe I could request an expedite. I got NOA 1 June 23ish.

Sorry for your loss and to your family.

About the expedite. Does his death have any affect on your finances?

That might be an angle but that is all I can think of.

Hopefully others can chime in.

With expedites, assume it's a denial unless you find out otherwise. That being said, there is no harm whatsoever in trying (the first time at least).

Even if she is not from a visa waiver country, why not try to get a tourist visa anyway? They aren't super expensive to apply for, and the worst they'll tell you is no.

Just wanted to come back and say thank you to everybody who replied. I went ahead and asked for the expedite. The officer on the phone seemed very sympathetic and was helpful. I think it is kind of a long shot, but hopefully whoever reviews the request will be understanding. I am going to see my fiancee in a few weeks, so that will be a welcomed distraction even if just for a week or so.
