Venezuela’s Maduro Says He Wants to Stick Anti-Socialist Twitter Users ‘in Prison for 30 Years’

Venezuela’s socialist dictator Nicolas Maduro told viewers on national television he wished he could sentence opposition members to 30-year prison sentences for their tweets.

Maduro referred particularly to tweets against his regime’s imposition of a fabricated lawmaking body on the Venezuelan people, designed to usurp the power of the democratically-elected National Assembly and draft a new constitution.

“They went crazy on Twitter. Even with just the tweets that they published is good enough to stick all of them in prison for 30 years,” Maduro said in a speech in front of his delegates. “I am not a dictator, but sometimes I feel like becoming one against those sons of guns”:

In a speech in front of his new delegates, Maduro also pledged to “eliminate the parliamentary immunities that generate impunity,” as he seeks to dissolve the power of elected lawmakers and replace them with socialist delegates hand-picked by the regime.

Really, he is not a dictator  that could not care a wit about the lives of the people he is leading?  I always heard the MDL and the Democratic Socialists were caring people?  I guess they just care about their own bottom sides.

Venezuela hasn't had a true democratic socialist gov't since Maduro took office in 2013. Not saying that the prior regime's policies didn't lead to the problems of today, but the Venezuelan gov't is more of a dictatorship now than anything else.

Sounds Democratic to me, and of course we know their economic system is socialism.  I have read the manifesto of the Democratic Socialist movement here and regardless of what they say, Venezuela could be their poster child.

Sure, but according to Maduro, the people (8 million +) voted for it, and in the other thread he says he is not a dictator.  Regardless, I think you get the point, Socialism is Bad, even when Bernie adds the qualifier "Democratic" to it as it leads to this type of power grab.

I see you either didn't read the article I linked, or just refuse to accept it. Which is fine, most people here know the drum you like to beat.

 

For the record, I have never said that a true socialistic gov't was a good thing, but there are some very good "socialist" policies, such as universal healthcare, social security and medicare that do exist and the US uses some of them.

Maduro and before him Chavez have been dictators for a long time and neither Clinton, Bush, or Obama did a darn thing about it.  I suppose this is now all Trump's fault now. 

 

As to the article it really didn't add anything new other than to ask the same question and state the same thing, Democratic Socialism must be stopped.  The reason this is happening is because Chavez already purged the military of anyone not supporting the endless Bolivar socialist never ending revolution and now Maduro says he has to make a few changes to make sure he and his ilk are the only ones with any food, drink, or money.  This is what happens when economies turn socialists completely.  The only thing saving Europe is that they still have a relatively free market, but I imagine Brussels would like to change that.
