It is so sad what happened, I pray for the people that died, may God give them a place in Heaven. I can only imagine the fear in all american universities right now, the fear that every mother and father have for their son or daughter student.

I wonder if what happened it will bring new rules in the immigration process.......just wondering.......

Prolly not. It could have been an american citizen born and raised here who did the shooting, him being immigrated here didnt have the effect, it wont do anything with the immigration process.

But it wasn't a US born American citizen. I think that irrelevant detail will only add fuel to the fire for the anti-immigration folks.

I'm listening to the radio right now and one caller blamed, 'letting all of them foreigners in here'. Sadly this country is full of hate and incidents like this fan the flames.

regardless, i seriously DOUBT this will have anything to do with the immigration process. No immigration procedure can check to see if a person is going to blow up a building or shoot ppl is mass quantity before granting them a visa. and if if they can, then i owe you a beer.

But let's not forget about the Adam Walsh Act.....it affected the I-130 !!!!!!

Exactly - that's my point. It's an emotional situation like this one that can make people and lawmakers lash out. Patriot Act, Adam Walsh Act...?

We should blame ourselves as a society when this happens. A young immigrant child, where 34 deaths and hundreds of relatives and friends in sheer pain right now all could have been prevented if someone perhaps said "hi" or "want to hang out". I feel so awful for this misguided kid, and 33 people were all victims of his misguidance.

Apparently so, Charles.

last night at work, several of us were discussing this event. one guy, who's wife is from korea, remarked that it's a good thing in korea that guns are pretty much outlawed as if they were not, the korean temper would keep the population down. now that the culprit has been identified, i'll have to see what this co-worker has to say.

Jessie or Al wouldn't help me out anyway. Wrong color.

Jesse might find that this kid was racist because he decided to carry this out in Blacksburg..

I know.. bad joke but I had to say it..

some of the victims were black too.

Exactly.

It is time we as a society, especially parents, start instilling these values in our kids.. This does not seem to be some misfit dropkick deadbeat kid who lived a life of trouble. This is a kid who seems to have been pushed to the limit and given up on life and others.. IE EG Columbine..

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Stop it. He is *NOT* the victim here. He's a worthless piece of chit and the only good thing about this story is he offed himself.

I agree. Plenty of people are lonely and they don't go off and murder 33 people. Either the kid was evil or he was seriously mentally ill...and I mean SERIOUSLY.

While I went through my fair share of depression in the teenage years, I can't understand the level of hopelessness that a person must feel if they seriously think that topping yourself is the only solution. This is on a whole other level and even more inexplicable - it seems there is a bit of ego involved given the reports that there was a romantic interest involved. The "if I can't have her, no-one will" rationale perhaps?

If I had to guess that's the core of it - on the press conference last night they mentioned that the casualties in the first shooting were a man and a woman. Still the guy clearly had to have planned this in advance, long before he showed up with all those weapons.

Hence why this ###### will happen again and again in the 'US' until someone wakes up and realizes the real problem is one which affects society as a whole..

Im NOT guessing. He was demon possessed. What he did was pre meditated. Like I said, you just don't chain the door when you know there are a lot of people inside . It's called mass murder.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Why do they have to report nationality? It is irrelevant, and is sort of inducing stereotypes to readers who already hate Koreans.

Don't know if anyone has addressed this, but this is America. People LOVE knowing what the nationality is of the person or persons involved in such heinous crimes. It gives them a reason to judge and it also satisfies he insatiable desire to *know*. It does add to the stereotype of some, I agree. However, I am not one of the Americans that hate any particular nationality. I am neither a racist or a bigotist. What I detest is the crime that has been committed.
