I filed mine on paper as well and have been in line for interview since 9/28. I guess on line filers in Los Angeles also could benefit from on line filing. It should be understandable for paper filers to feel frustrated. I just wish some on line filers(a minorty of them)here at least could be a bit understanding or sensitive about paper filers' situations, and not just take things for granted and be like "Oh well, it is what it is, nothing unfair about it". I am sure the majority of the online filers here are understanding and supportive, but at least the silver lining is maybe the LA office is moving at least. Good luck to you. Hope for the best.

I can’t imagine who you’d be referring to! LOL.

Me either. Once again, congrats to your upcoming 400 interview! It is great to be supportive of each other on this very forum!

I am an online filer, and my status has not changed in almost 2 months (Sep 18, we reviewed your biometrics). I do not believe online filers are processed faster.

I think It depends on several factors:

1. Field office processing times according to its workload. (San Francisco office is backlogged - On average 11 months processing times)

2. Citizenship eligibility (I applied on my 90 day window period prior to my real date of eligibility Nov 29). It is reasonable that someone who filed N-400 later than me, but is already eligible, gets the "in line for interview" status -or the interview date- earlier, no matter the filing way he/she opted for.

3. Combo process with I-751. Feewise, it may seen illogical/unfair not having a green card after being fingerprinted and payed that much money, but in the long run the goal is to get the citizenship, and doing a combo process is  a way of resources optimization.

On the other hand, as long as we get the I-551 stamp to travel and work, we are still holding our permanent resident status. I would be really worry if I did not get it when I need it. As far as the N-400 concerns, although the await is tedious, long and sometimes frustrating, I see no problem at all, because my status remains the same than 3 years ago, with no restrictions. Legit personal motivation, as your own special situation for your husband´s age, is totally understandable.

It obviously depends on which field office and what city you live in. Not every online filer gets a fast interview date, but it is a fact that of all the applicants who have gotten interviews quickly are all on line filers. Appreciate that you understand the frustrations from paper filers. You applied on line, so you might get an interview notice next month or so, at least you have a greater chance. That will be great if you do. Keep the forum posted.

My husband and I are awaiting his n-400 approval because we're planning an overseas move and need to finalize the citizenship before that. We're pretty much ready to go and are just waiting for this and trying to figure out when to put our house up for sale. Waiting to move for an extra 6 months and knowing we could have had a much sooner finalization to this process is frustrating. I'm not blaming online filers though, just the lack of distinction at the time of applying that online filing would result in such a difference in speed.

I may be wrong (so please double-check), but I don't remember reading that you must live in the US until you become a US citizen.  :reading:

I mean you'll need to come back to the US for your interview and oath ceremony, but I'm not sure if you'll need to live in the US during the N-400 application process once you've lived in the US for 3 years (if you're married to a US citizen) or 5 years as a permanent resident.  :huh2:

As long as you meet residency requirements you’re fine. Of course better to ask a lawyer.

Usually takes 2-3 business days from the time you get that message to the time they actually upload the PDF. Not sure why they wouldn’t just do it at the same time....

Thanks, all! That's interesting to know; I wouldn't have thought of that. I think we'll wait it out though as it would be too expensive to fly back for interviews and oath ceremonies. I'm just eager for it to all finish up because we have a lot of balls in the air right now - pending I-751, pending N-400, house sale prep and getting ready for another visa overseas (for me this time!). I'll be glad when it all starts simplifying. My hope is it doesn't drag on into the late spring, but I'm at the LA office so it's certainly possible.  :)

Ufff there's no hope for me, I'm a NYC filer I may see a movement in my case by January if I'm lucky enough

Don't give up.  Stay positive.   i think what is taking so long is  the background check after we take our fingerprinting.  I had my biometrics on June 12 and got my notice on Sept 19 for an interview.  My interview was Oct. 23.

Update:

interview Date: 11/06/2017 @ 12:20pm  (PASSED)

Interview Experience:

I came an hour early for my interview appointment, I checked in and head straight at the waiting area.

Still browsing my reviewer and pray my heart out. At 12:30 exactly I was called in by my interviewer

she's very nice. never felt nervous as soon as I entered the room. so she had me stand up and raised

my right hand to swear to tell the truth and nothing but the truth :D and she let me sit. she asked

how was my day and if I drove on my way, I said no I never drive I always take the bus. and she laugh

telling that is good you got no traffic violation to discuss. lolz. and She asked for my complete name,

SSN#, complete address, phone number, where am I currently working, how long I've been working.

name of my daughter and her birthday, my husband's name and birthday. and suddenly she asked if

I wanted to change my name, and I was like, Really? she said yes you may change your name.. and I

asked her again, can I change my Lastname? and she replied, if you like. then I told her, I want my

Maiden last name back. she smile and print the paper for me to sign to change my name.

Exam:

She hand me over a paper to Read the sentence. it say's "Who is our first President?"

I read and I answered it George Washington. then she signed the paper. and handed me another

paper for written exam. she asked me to write "The United States First President is George Washington"

so I wrote it down and gave her the paper and she signed. then last part is the civics.

questions asked were;

1. When do we vote for federal election? answer. November (correct)

2. Who is the Governor of Hawaii? answer: David Ige (correct)

3.  What did Susan B Anthony did for the US? answer: She fought for women's and civil rights (correct)

4. What country did US fought during WW2? answer: Germany, Italy and Japan (correct)

5. When is the Declaration of Independence? answer: July 4, 1776 (correct)

6. Name 2 Federal Holiday. answer: Veterans Day and Thanksgiving (correct)

And she didn't continue anymore questions.. then she said. "CONGRATULATIONS, YOU PASSED!"

and I was surprised, happy and relieved. after that she asked for a passport photo, good thing I have

some on hand. and she congratulate me again and told me that I'll be receiving a letter for my oath taking.

My Appointment Took 25min. total:D
