K short review of Auckland Consulate.

Arrived way too early and got told to come back 15 mins before my appointment. Went through security and they stored my bag with my laptop and phone. Handed over my smart watch too, though they said a normal watch would've been fine to go through.

There were a couple of people ahead of me but otherwise it was empty. Met B who handled the fingerprints and paperwork. She's got a great reputation judging by the other Auckland reviews and sure enough she was fantastic. I was a lot more nervous than I thought I was, she told me not to be and I thought I was fine, then I noticed my hands trembling when I went to give my fingerprints. Could've been the three coffees I'd had before the appointment since I couldn't sleep and got up at 4am. There was some initial concern that I might need some more documentation regarding my co-sponsors assets, but the interviewer ended up saying they won't need anything else.

Sat back down for about 20 minutes and got called to the interview window. Did the oath and then answered 3 basic questions. How did you meet your wife? Why are you wanting to move? and What do you do?. There were a couple of minor questions which could've been trick questions designed to catch out a liar, such as "oh you got married in 2016 right?" it was actually 2006. They could have also just been mistakes on the interviewers part, couldn't really tell.

I had a bunch of photos with me ready to show as evidence but it never really came up, and I forgot to offer them, didn't seem like they needed them at all. Was expecting it considering we didn't exactly front-load the initial application.

The interview probably lasted 6 to 7 minutes tops, and then the interviewer gave me the domestic abuse pamphlet, and told me to expect the sealed packet and passport in the mail in 10 business days after some 'final checks' are done. Then off I went, total time in the consulate was just under an hour, with most of it spent waiting for the two people ahead of me to finish up.

It all felt quite anticlimactic after 16 months of RFE's, Checklists, Senators, phone calls to Thailand, and Police Certificate confusion. So glad it's mostly over.

EDIT: CEAC still says "Ready" 7 hours after my interview.

VISA APPROVED!!!!!!   :jest::jest::jest::jest::jest:

Thursday August 24, 2017 Pakistan Time

7 AM:  Arrived at Visa Seeker Shuttle Service.  University Road and 3rd Ave.  Bought Executive Class shuttle ticket.

7:30 AM:  Going to embassy, they didn't have enough cars available.  So ended up riding in the air conditioned Coaster Bus.  10 minute drive.

8:00 AM:  Arrived at US Embassy.  Went through security.

Inside the Embassy...

  1. Immigrant vs. non-immigrant applicants separated.
  2. Directed to at window #11.  Interview letter stamped with token number.  Passport checked.  Took 2 passport photos.  Digital finger prints. Told to sit and wait.
  3. At second window, original birth certificate, marriage certificate, and passport collected.  Including photocopies of these documents. Told to sit and wait.
  4. At third window, interviewed by CO.  Asked what husband does for living?  Where does he work?  Whats your education background?  Where did you complete your studies?  Where did your husband complete his education?  Do you have wedding pictures?  Congratulations!  Your visa is approved.  You will receive call to pick up passport in two weeks.

10:00 AM:  Took executive shuttle back to station.

My wife also reports, Islamabad embassy was hammering other applicants on relationship questions.  Make sure your spouses know about your employment.

CEAC website already says "ADMINISTRATIVE PROCESSING."  Gives generic information.  AP can take several weeks...If your visa application is approved, it will be mailed within two business days.

Hopefully, visa is issued by end of day today.  And will receive call for pickup.

Congratulations 👏
