“Larry Mason was cited for animal abuse back in July 2006 (in Bennington County VT), when he was found to have 32 German Shepherd Dogs on board a school bus, most in crates, some 2 dogs to a crate and 11 dogs loose on the bus. Feces and urine were dripping out of the back of the bus. Under fed, under socialized, some with broken bones, some with old wounds that were never treated. Larry was previously living in NH, as of March 2006 he had approximately 50 dogs on his property, living in horrific conditions.” Here is our story.

On March 27th, 2006 our hotline received a call from a woman stating that over 50 GSD’s (German Shepherd Dogs) were being neglected in Bridgewater, NH. Could we please call her back.

I called her back ASAP, only to hear that 50 plus GSD’s were living in horrible conditions. Some were tied up outside with no shelter, others were in a pen together, while more were living crowded into a small shed. Large dishes were out with no food or water in them. Dog fights were occurring, with the more dominant dogs attacking other dogs, with groups of dogs noted to be attacking one dog. Dogs were drinking from muddy puddles, they had feces matted to their fur, some dogs had injuries that needed medical care. The one common thing among ALL the dogs is they were all grossly underweight, with ribs and backbones visible to the naked eye. The long haired dog’s starvation was not as obvious but simply running a hand down their sides revealed that they were just like the others, grossly underweight. She and other neighbors could hear the dogs crying and barking, especially at night. As a neighbor and concerned citizen she offered to buy Larry some food and help pay for medical care. He refused her help. Out of desperation to help at least one dog, she purchased one of his dogs and gave it to a friend. That dog has made very slow transition toward integrating into a life as a house dog and is very slowly returning to good health, with setbacks along the way. It took over one month before this dog would even approach the woman to be patted.

actually on those animal SPCA etc type shows, I have seen people who hoard dogs...

300?

why does it have to be 300 to be considered hoarding?? If someone had 10 dogs in a small apartment, I think that might be hoarding.....

Absolutely! 10 dogs in a small apartment. I'm astounded at usually the number of cats that are involved in these stories! It's always so many and usually exceeds more than 50!

I wasn't sure were to post this but this might be a good place... :P

I was searching for something else and I found this... it is slightly disturbing

Kitty Litter Cake Recipe

CAKE INGREDIENTS

1 box German chocolate or spice cake mix

1 box of white cake mix

1 package (12 or 16 oz) white sandwich cookies

1 large package vanilla instant pudding mix

A few drops green food coloring

12 small Tootsie Rolls or equivalent

SERVING "DISHES AND UTENSILS"

1 NEW cat-litter box

1 NEW cat-litter box liner

1 NEW pooper scooper

Prepare and bake cake mixes, according to directions, in any size pan. Prepare pudding and chill.

Crumble cookies in small batches in blender or food processor. Add a few drops of green food coloring to 1 cup of cookie crumbs. Mix with a fork or shake in a jar. Set aside.

When cakes are at room temperature, crumble them into a large bowl. Toss with half of the remaining cookie crumbs and enough pudding to make the mixture moist but not soggy. Place liner in litter box and dump in mixture.

Unwrap 3 Tootsie Rolls and heat in a microwave until soft and pliable. Shape the blunt ends into slightly curved points. Repeat with three more rolls. Bury the rolls decoratively in the cake mixture.

Sprinkle remaining white cookie crumbs over the mixture, then scatter green crumbs lightly over top. Heat 5 more Tootsie Rolls until almost melted. Scrape them on top of the cake and sprinkle with crumbs from the litter box. Heat the remaining Tootsie Roll until pliable and hang it over the edge of the box.

Place box on a sheet of newspaper and serve with scooper. Enjoy!

Dave Ahl's Improved Kitty Litter Cake Recipe

The primary ingredient of most actual kitty litter is clay, which is gray. Unfortunately, there are very few gray items in cooking (except for a few fish) so it is difficult to approximate the correct color. In the Ahl cooking laboratory, I found that the above mix of ingredients resulted in a final product that was too dark. Thus, I suggest using the crumbs from only about one-third to one-half of the chocolate cake with the full white cake. This will result in a better base color.

Second, most cakes today are designed to have a moist texture, which means when you crumble the cakes, the resulting particles are too small, more like sticky fine sand (bad) than dry course gravel (good). Thus, I suggest baking the cakes for longer than normal. You want the cakes well-done (not burned, of course) so they'll crumble into gravel-size pieces. Similarly, you want your cookies broken up in gravel-size pieces. My food processor ground them up much too fine, so I put 6 or 8 cookies at a time in a zip-lock bag and pounded them with a rolling pin. A hand chopper would do as well. I also found that a large package of pudding was way too much; a regular 3.4-oz package will be plenty.

Food coloring is tricky stuff with the cookie crumbs. Too much and everything turns green; too little and there's no color at all. All you want is a hint of green, which, when mixed with the uncolored white crumbs gives a suggestion of gray. (If any web site visitors can suggest a better way to make gray, I'd be glad to hear about it. Send me e-mail to comiccats@aol.com).

Last, it is very difficult to find standard or "fun" size Tootsie Rolls these days. However, Tootsie Roll "Midgees" will do just fine, except you may have to use more of them. If you nuke three of them in a microwave for 20 seconds, they'll be just right to shape and pull.

Why are you trying to turn this into a cat vs dog thread? Honestly, who cares what's better....and obviously you have your preferences, so bravo to you. But I can't help but read that you have quite a thing against cats, which seems a bit strange to me, but hey, whatever floats your boat!

I think cats are easier to hoard cos they're smaller and more self-sufficient? That's just my speculation tho.

ETA: it's guests, plural not guest's as in belonging to one guest....but that's my apparant thing against misused apostrophes

Okay Ms. Thing...Anywhere on this thread did I say anything about a dog being better than a cat? Absolutely NOT. If you love your cat, whatever. If you love your dog, whatever. I respond to those that wish to engage me.

Whatever problems I have with cats, is between me and whatever cat decides to run under the wheels of my car.

By the way, thank you for pointing out my puncuation error!

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Someone ran over my cat and killed her on my birthday in 2003. Let's hope they didn't have your attitude towards cats. I hope they were at LEAST...at the VERY least...sorry about what they had done.

Nothing taken personally about your grinding axe with my puncuation! I am usually very good with my English too. Damn! I actually enjoyed your response. I didn't know I was THAT obvious about cats!

Maybe sometime we can get together and grind an axe or two! Or is that "to" or "too"?

Edit: That wasn't a pick-up line! :o

I just watched a 'How Clean is Your House' where they removed over 4 tons of garbage from a 2 bedroom attached house *puke*

Did you ever see that BBC show on the environmental health dept in UK? They had some really terrible stuff on there – including a pair of brothers who had some sort of morbid fear of loss – to the extent that they couldn’t throw anything away (including their own urine and used toilet paper). They guys sent in from the council had respirators and biohazard suits, but even through that one guy had to take several fresh air breaks to vomit outside.

Wasn't that Life of Grime?
