I'm going today for my medical exam, I've called several doctors and ask them what test they do, nobody has mentioned " drug test ".

In other discussions people claims when doctor ask for drug use and admit it they have been drug tested and banned for a year

What if I just denied I've used Marihuana in the past? Will that avoid the doctor to skip the drug test? If they drug test you do they charge you? ( as they charge for everything)

I hope people can help with this questions.

Sorry if i ask a few questions,

Did they make you pay for the urine test?  Did ask you first if you use drugs before the test?

because a lot of people do not make urine test for what I am reading in other threads.

They have done a urine test when I got my medical. After my results came back the doctor checked 'no drug abuse' or something like that on the medical form

Last post was for you, what questions did they ask you before the urine test, did you pay for the test?

They didn't ask any questions about drug use before the urine test. It was included in the price of my exam but I had to pay like $400 extra because my immunization records got lost and they had to redo 5 of them.

the questions that they asked before the exams(blood, tuberculosis, urine, general physical) were basic personal informations, questions about my periods, weight height etc.. nothing too detailed :) after a few days I had to go back and they measured the tuberculosis thingy and told me that I passed the exam and the doctor put in my results in the medical form . They gave me a sealed envelope for immigration and opened envelope for my records

On my medical form right above the question about drugs it says :' include here any diagnosis of substance related disorders based on DSM criteria etc etc See CDC technical instructions for more information. '

I looked it up and here's a link https://www.cdc.gov/immigrantrefugeehealth/pdf/mental-health-cs-ti.pdf it starts at page 7 and following pages

Thank you!

I found this on page 12.

Does this mean that they won't drug screen unless you failed table 1 points?

Laboratory Testing

Random screening for drugs is not part of the routine medical examination for applicants for U.S. admission. The civil surgeon needs to evaluate the applicant’s history, behavior and physical appearance when determining if drug screening should be performed. Whole populations of applicants should not routinely be subject to random laboratory screening. The civil surgeon should make an individual decision based on the indications for drug screening (see Table 1).

Table 1.

Indications for Laboratory Drug Screening Include (but are not limited to) -

  1.  History of any substance abuse or dependence with a specific substance listed in Schedules I through V of Section 202 of the Controlled Substances Act. (See Appendix C)
  2.  Applicant-provided information that appears to contradict information provided by family members or from other records, such as police, military, school, and employment.
  3.  Unexplained gaps of time in the applicant’s past schooling or employment.
  4.  Evidence of unreliable or false information given during the interview or examination.
  5.  Any demeanor, presentation, or findings that the examining physician associates with substance abuse or dependence, such as motor ability and interpersonal skills; deepened skin coloring, needle scarring, or skin ulcers along the veins in the arms or legs; or a hard, bumpy, or shrunken liver.
  6.  Evidence or appearance of intoxication with any substance during the examination.
  7.  Disturbed behavior that might be associated with a substance-related disorder.
  8.  Follow-up of an initial positive drug screen or a history of a positive drug-screening test.

I  found this link as well

https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/USCIS/Outreach/Notes from Previous Engagements/2012/May 2012/civil-surgeonQA-11-13-12.pdf

Q42. What is a civil surgeon's responsibility if he or she suspects that an applicant is being dishonest about his or her drug use?

A42. If the civil surgeon believes the applicant is not being truthful about his or her drug use, the civil surgeon may either: Decline to certify Form I-693, or Perform random drug screening according to the CDC’s Technical Instructions for Physical or Mental Disorders with Associated Harmful Behaviors and Substance-Related Disorders. (See pages 11-12 for specific information.)

I'm not the beneficiary but I thought almost every single beneficiary got and paid for a drug test. I know my fiance had to and he's never smoked a cigarette or had an alcoholic drink even.

If you're not currently using drugs, quit being so concerned about your ability to pass it. If you are, well stop at least 30 days before your medical!

During the medical you may be asked about drug use.  This is the time to be honest. If you admit to drug use in the pass and the pass has been many years ago then you shouldn't have any concerns. The best policy here is to be hones.

All testing for the physical portion of the exam is included in your medical payment. This includes any drug screening.  If there are additional steps outside the normal medical you may have a fee to pay.

I think it depends on the country?

I got asked if I've ever done drugs among all the other questions but I did not do a urine test.

But why are you freaking out about this?

If you are doing drugs then just deal with it and take the ban! If not then there is nothing to worry about.

But don't lie because that can end up being worse for you.
