I came in the US from a K1 visa. And applied for my SSN 2 weeks after my POE (I have applied 30 May 2017). The application went well and the Social Security staff only asked for my passport, visa and I94 copy. He said It would probably take 4 weeks but it would be probably earlier than that. 3 Weeks have past and I started to call the office. The lady who answered said my application is still pending and I have to wait 30days. And so another week have past and I started ringing them again. To my surprise the lady said my application is gone for some reason she couldn't explain to me.

So me and my fiance decided to visit the office yesterday. Talked to this officer and he said the application is still pending. It's funny that this office in Pennsylvania is not consistent with their statement. We asked for the reason why, he said, my documents needs to be verified by DHS. It has been a month and a week now and I'm getting worried. Although I have insisted him to make a call to DHS he said my application is out of their control and all we can do is wait. He said my application is being verified in Buffalo NY DHS. We asked for the number and he said he doesn't know. He started to be very rude and me and fiance decided to just leave the office. I just don't understand why this is taking long while others could get their ssn in 2 weeks.

We are getting married this week and my worry is we can't settle some joint documents/accounts that we need to settle to file my AOS since i dont have my ssn still. Any suggestion to my case? i have no idea if its just happening here in eastcoast side or its just my county here in Pennsylvania.

Thanks for the advices in advance.

There's probably an issue with the SAVE db.

There really isn't anything you MUST have an SSN for in the USA beyond working.  Even if a bank etc tries to tell you you need an SSN, you don't.  It's just that their employees are morons that can't figure it out. :D

I would suggest you visit that office again, ask to speak with a supervisor. The issue with the SSA office is that some staff don't have a clue and they won't admit. I have a friend whose name was just wrongly entered into FBI checklist... after several calls, she went down there and only to find out that the staff that handled her case, just clicked on something she shouldn't have. The supervisor corrected it and less than 4 days she got her SSN.

So please go back there and ask to speak with a supervisor.

Congrats on your wedding, enjoy your honeymoon......

Thanks for the response and wishes everyone! Will come back to SSA tomorrow again to follow up. And this time I will talk to the supervisor. If there isnt anyway, will just wait til i get my combo card EAD, AP.

Thank you!
