Very strange this inconsistency over use of previous fingerprints and biometrics.

We all followed a similar time line in the first round of fingerprints and biometrics for the original 2 year Green Card.

So now two years later . . . how can some of the fingerprints and bios be 'out of date' and need be repeated (as most of us have already done) . . . and yet others such as Anna's be 'OK for current reuse?'

I have absolutely no idea why this happens either. Based on what I have read in other threads, it is totally random and there is no consistency or reasoning behind it. I have waited more than 6 months for my bio appt letter so personally I'm glad that I don't have to keep calling every other month and constantly having to worry about it.

Are you guys going to file for citizenship this year as well? Just a quick question, if we filed for citizenship and got called in for an interview before I751 approved. Do both of us have to appear for the interview or just the beneficiary? If filed after approval of I751, is it interview for both or just beneficiary?

Yep, I will! I will become eligible on June 26th.

Hi,

I submitted my documents in July 2017 in LA, got my interview notice in November, went to the interview in January. it went well, they asked only a few question, how did we meet, when we got married that is pretty much all, but they couldn't approve my green card because no one called me for biometrics, the officer said she doesn't need anything from us, but she will do an additional FBI check since i don't have updated biometrics.

did anyone get on the same boat?

Seriously, you sent in I-751 in July; got an interview in January; but were told you can't get your 10 GC because of no biometrics?

I'm totally confused.  First, if your app is being filed at CSC then how were you so lucky in getting your app processed in under 5 months??  Isn't CSC working slow, as in a year and a half behind???  You're pretty lucky and have won the lottery I'd say.  Second, how is it that you never had biometrics and yet were called for an interview. Something just doesn't seem right here. Perhaps there is other information missing that you have not mentioned.  Since your timeline isn't filled in, its difficult to fully understand your situation.

You are right, this is exactly the case. I was called for the interview within 4 months, not sure if can call it lucky since i didn't get the CG. I have never received any biometrics appt, not sure why they called me for the interview without biometrics and according to the officer she can't use the old ones, they are expired. At the interview it seemed the only issue was the biometrics, we submitted 500 pages of joint documents.

There was a similar case in the August fillers thread. They filed in August, had an interview in December and got a biometrics appointment after the interview. Not sure what happened to them after that...

Hi all,

I submitted my i-751 in July 2017, received a notice of receipt and haven't received anything since then. I've read through this thread a bit and people received their biometrics appointments? I still can't look up my case status online because it cannot find my receipt number.....is this normal?!

Hey hiimkristina,

I submitted late June and it was received July 14, I did biometrics before I got a letter that biometrics were not needed and since then have not heard anything.

I noticed I had two receipt numbers, maybe check if you another one within that paperwork which will work

It was around that time that receiving letters and appts for biometrics turned wonky.  Some people received them, some did not.  My guess is it was dependent on which FO you needed to get biometrics done.  This is just my theory and has not been proven.  I got my NOA1 and about 14 days later got my biometrics appt letter.

Since I was closely following the May, June and July filers I noticed that not everyone was receiving bio appt letter.  I have not followed the threads that closely but have come to the conclusions that they have become selective and are not requiring biometrics to be completed at this time.  I have read several posts where people are putting in service requests and have made info pass appts about them.

I wouldn't worry, the backlog is real and when it comes our turn we will move forward in the wait.

There has been some speculation that since I-751 wait times are so long, that people are jumping the gun and filing their N-400 to jump the line since the N-400 are adjudicated at   FO's.  While this might reduce the load in assessing the I-751, it twill then increase the wait time with the N-400 as FO's will be inundated.

As for the case number.  I have read that you cannot look up your case with your receipt number at this point; they are not the same.  I haven't personally tried as I figure I just have to do the time.  Maybe someone else can chime in here.

You need the receipt number from the biometric appointment letter to check it online. Since you never received one, you can call USCIS and ask to speak to Tier 2, they can tell you what the receipt number is.

I wonder, did any people that went to the Interview only to find out they needed bio-metrics receive a letter stating they did not need bio-metrics? At least it sounds like it only causes a short additional delay. It does not give me a whole lot of faith in their systems (Not that I ever had any)!!

As to the reference number to check your case status - avora9002 is correct, you need the number that is on the biometrics letter. If you don't have one, some have been successful getting the number from USCIS if they contact them I think. I got mine after making an infopass appointment. I have no idea why they make multiple reference numbers... just another way to make us all confused!

The 10 year GC approval wait is loonnnnggg.  While the stats posted on here are estimates expect to wait over 12 months and more like 18.  If you wish to travel out of the country, you still can as the letter extends the date stamped on the GC.  VSC (since your from Michigan, I'm assuming VSC is your service center) is working on cases from January 23, 2017 right now according to

https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/processingTimesDisplay.do;jsessionid=abc8BeWSkOqqz6kfETshw

Some people are saying VSC is a tad faster than CSC, so you are lucky.  It's just a waiting game, no different from any process you've experienced already.  About a month prior to the letter's expiration you will want to make an info pass appt to get your passport stamped (I-551) which extends the letter.  The IO will take your GC but stamp your passport.  From what I have read, you will still need to carry the extension letter with you however. Be sure to scan and make plenty of copies of the front and back of your GC before your appt, because you will need to submit copies of it when filing for your N-400.

Others are hoping to expedite their I-751 and applying for their N-400 using the 90 day window before your 3rd year GC anniversary to jump the long wait. You can find plenty of info about this by reading threads here on VJ. You  might want to start investigating the next steps....that is if you want to get naturalized.
