Hello everyone I am hoping for some advice,

my wife and I filed my application for an adjustment of status simultaneously with an I-130, I-131 in December 12th of 2016. Our case was assigned to the MSC and we received receipts for the case by December 28th.

I understand that the case will likely end up at the local service center here in NYC however as of now it still shows online as sitting with the National Service Center. Is there any value in looking to get a status update through USCIS or will they just tell me to wait? We are now sitting at 6 months with no appointment scheduled.

Thanks!

Yeah like Georgia says you might have to wait a year or more, that's not unusual. You can obviously try to get some info from USCIS by calling them but most likely they'll just tell you that you're well within processing time still and that you have to wait. USCIS costumer service employees go by the processing times on the website, right now they show that the NYC field office is working on cases from June 1 last year. Hopefully they have come a bit further than that in reality, the website shows "as of April 30" and that's obviously a while ago..

Here's the thread for December filers who adjust status from tourist/student/work visas. It usually feels better to talk to other people who are in the same situation:
