Need your help! Submitted our I-129F package last week. Wondering, will family rejection affect our K1 visa? My family are okay with our relationship, they are very supportive and excited for this. However, my fiancee family is not really happy with this relationship. We have a screenshot of her doing a video call with my brother family and my parents. But, we don't have any screenshot of me doing video call or meet her family. Will there be any problem? Fyi, She's from Malaysia, and I'm from States.

Hi,

My fiancee is from Malaysia too. We submitted the I-129F package on March. I don't suppose family objection is an issue considering she's of age. I suppose you did visited her in Malaysia right? What do you think is the issue with her family?

 Hi,

She's Muslim, same goes to her family. However, she didn't practice it in her daily day, unlike her parents and her family. Her parents have a concern about that. Her parents not reject this relationship since they know she will always be a Muslim and so do I (i will convert after K1 approve). However,  they refuse to meet me in person or communicate with me. Our first plan is that for me to visit her and her family at Malaysia, but after she told them about that and they refused to meet me, we think that it is better if I didn't meet them first. It is to avoid more conflict. My fiance and I did meet in person, but we meet at Australia since her tourist visa got rejected last November .

Right, I guess the issue with the parents lies probably with the daughter marrying someone outside their religion. At this stage, I don't think they will believe you about converting to Muslim. My fiancee is Chinese Malaysian and she's not religious so we don't have this issue. I spent some time in Malaysia and I know a little about how things are there. Malaysia is divided into three major races; Malay (by law they have to be Muslim), Chinese and Indian. As Malaysia used to be a British colony, there is a fair share of Eurasians too. Based on my knowledge, if you marry a Muslim there, you have to convert to Muslim as well unless you and your spouse migrate elsewhere. Since you applied for a K1, it is understood that your fiancee will be living with you in New York. In that case, it is not necessary for you to convert to Muslim unless it is your personal preference.

Which part of Australia did you two met? My fiancee used to live in Melbourne. Is there a specific reason to why her tourist visa got rejected? Filing error or some sort? My fiancee have a 6 month multiple entry travel visa at first. Last year, she received a 10 year multiple entry travel visa. According to her, the application process was quite smooth.

Back to your concern, I honestly don't think family objection will be an issue as the parents will not be interviewed.

I just posted this K1 Visa I-129F Stage. Feel free to share you thoughts.

Hi Jesus & Michelle,

My fiancee is not religious too. We were having a discussion about this before we begin this relationship. Agreed, since both of us will stay and get marry at NY, it is not necessary for me to convert to Islam. However, to keep a relationship with her family, I decided to convert to Islam. At least, by doing that, we can still try to make the relationship getting better in future. We have a concern on how should she answer if the interviewer asks her about family acceptance. Should her tell the truth or lie about it by saying that her family accepts me and happy with our relationship?

We met in Sydney, Australia. Her visa got rejected before because they figured out about our relationship and afraid that she will not come back to Malaysia again.

So her family were OK with her going to Australia to meet you, a man of a different religion? But they don't want her to go to the USA to live with you? Sounds like the problem isn't with you (they must have known that after meeting you in Australia the relationship was going to a more serious level) but more about her leaving home and getting married. Maybe they think she's too young? Is she their only child? Or the youngest child? They will miss her and I think it's more about that than rejecting you.

No, family rejection is not a cause for a visa rejection. It actually is fairly common to see on here, primarily because the couple is a same sex couple and the family does not approve. But that can nor does not lead to a visa rejection. What are the ages for you and your fiance? That may be a reason for their hesitance.

We met in Sydney, Australia. Her visa got rejected before because they figured out about our relationship and afraid that she will not come back to Malaysia again.

That's a difficult question. I personally don't think that converting into another religion just to be on the good side of her family will gain their acceptance if they are so reluctant in the first place. No hard feelings but it seemed like they didn't even try to get to know you. Maybe you can try from a different perspective.

Call it instinct but I don't think she's a single child right? Is she young? What about the age gap if you don't mind me asking...

Just checked with my fiancee about her interview experience for the travel visa. They only asked about the purpose of her trip in which my fiancee answered honestly. They reminded her not to get married on a travel visa. Asked her level of education and her job. My fiancee is currently taking an online MBA with a full time job as a business development manager. They didn't bother asking for her finances and the process took only 10 minutes or so. I think your fiancee was hesitant in describing about your relationship and hence the 'figured out' part. Hesitant will cause doubt so maybe she should get used to it.

As for if she should tell the truth or lie about family acceptance, let's see what others will say on this. Though I honestly think it wouldn't affect the petition.

I am from the US. A muslim convert for 1 year and a half now. Before meeting my husband so I was never forced. Converting into someone's religion for love or the family isn't right. In the end you'll be unhappy. But let me tell you this about Islam. In Islam, a muslim woman must not marry a nonmuslim mam hence why it's a problem for her family. It's seen as a huge sin. She may not be so grounded on Islam but her family is.

As for the visa being rejected, it has nothing to do with the family. Best of luck

So why we're they happy for her to go to Australia to meet him? Surely the fact that she was traveling so far to meet up with a man demonstrates that this is more than just a casual acquaintance. They must know that this is a serious relationship if she flies to another country to see him. If the family didn't approve of him, they would have tried to stop her going to meet him in Australia. But no problems with that trip have been reported.

Her family is more afraid that she will convert to Christian after we are married. Based on what she told me before, her family is having a problem in letting their children married. She's 27 years old, and she is the third of 6 siblings. She has a brother who's already married, and her sister above her still not married yet because of the same reason (her parents refuse to meet that guy in person).

Hi Cyberfx1024,

I'm 36 and she's 27. Should her be honest about the family acceptance if the CO ask her about that?

She's not a single child and she is 27 ye.

My fiancee put visit a friend as her purpose of her trip, so, during the interview, the CO asked her is it, friend or boyfriend. So, she did answer boyfriend. After that CO did ask about what she will do there, so, she explained and gave the itinerary. After that, CO gave back her passport and told her to apply for K1 instead of the tourist visa.

Hi Mido&Emi,

Thanks! Yes, I know about that, she did explain to me and I did my research on that too. That's one of the reasons why I decided to convert to Islam.

Her parents know about our relationship from the beginning. They didn't reject me from the start. They can even send regards and wish me a happy birthday during my birthday. However, we are not sure why suddenly when she told her that she want to get marry with me, they are so offensive. She keeps asking her parents why, but, they didn't give any solid answer.
