I was hoping to get a full year extension because I will be going back to the UK in November for 6 months or more but they only gave me 3 months and said that I will have to come back before I leave again to get the full year extension.

 

Whilst I was there, I asked if there were any updates on my file. They just said that it still says "received biometrics...". I thought as much. She agreed with me that we wouldn't hear anything until Christmas. 

 

Sorry guys! Not a very fruitful fact-finding mission. 

My extension letter expires 7/19/18...I went in today, got a one-year stamp, and they gave me my green card back. I guess every office has different practices.

Thank you for the clarification...Then the last update on my Case was 3/5/18 "Case Was Received At My Local Office".

I have my Info pass appointment next week and my reason for the appointment is to request for extension. I see that many people in this forum mentioned about their traveling plans to the officer and got extension. I don't have any immediate travel plans but I need the extension to continue to work. Isn't this a valid reason for asking extension? Can anyone share their experience?

All of us need an extension to continue working and to be able to renew our driver license. Travelling is not the main reason to get your GC extended. However I had heard some people got a 6 months extension because they did not mention any plan to travel during their appointment. 

I said I was planning to travel (although I might not travel until I get my 10 year GC). I got my stamp for one year.

Mine was extended for one year without any mention of travel plans.

Extension time seems arbitrary. We mentioned travel without any specific plans (just "we will be going back to Japan sometime this year") and got a 1 year extension (we didn't ask for any specific length of extension). Others seem to have gotten short extensions even with some specific plans. I suspect the particular person you end up talking to has a lot of latitude on this.

You have to check the I-175 receipt number!!  right here https://my.uscis.gov/account/applicant

So, you got again you GC expired?? and you can use them?

You may need your physical green card, along with the stamp in your passport, in order to obtain or renew your driver's license. I read some people had their card taken after they got the stamp.
