First cousins- texas residence

 Hello,  

 

My and my wife married about 8 months ago in Turkey. I am the citizen and we had the intervirw at the consulate in Ankara today. I married my first cousin which is legal in Turkey and some states in unites states. We were told that everyhing was in order but since we are first cousins they had to check with the state if they can issue the immigrant visa. Has anybody been in this stuation? Any advice would be great. I read online as long as the marriage is legal at the location it was held Texas accept the marriage. All I want to know is if consulate can actually ask for this detail or are they just doing more checks?? We are in admin process now.......

Yes they can do that. If it's not legal where you intent to live they can deny the visa. Someone on here was told they needed to move to a different state.

  You are not allowed to violate the laws in the US in bringing your spouse here.  Some countries allow people to have multiple spouses, but that is not allowed here.  Is that also discrimination ?   You can choose to live in a place where what you want to do is legal or you can live where you currently do and not do things that are illegal.  It is your choice.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

You have to abide by the laws of your jurisdiction you live in; nothing discriminatory. Your responsibility to research beforehand. 

Cohabiting before marriage is not uncommon in the US.. imagine doing so in Turkey if it was illegal by Turkish law.
