I agree most sales managers are a next level of failure to communicate. However  I think you are talking about the Finance manager. Those guys get paid on the interest rate you are charged and any products you buy like Gap, warranty , road Hazzard etc. If you buy a car and stroke a check and don't buy anything else , they make zero and it can actually make them make less overall.

Some of them try to hard, I admit.

I have done quite well because I was a consumer for 30 years, I am super laid back and even tell people.  I am not going to call and bother you, they appreciate that and usually come back and find me after they get surroundedby 5 people at the next place.

When my wife first decided to live here permanently we went to get her a car. We found a 3 year old Ford Edge in good shape and with fairly low miles at a local dealer. I am not one to purchase any of the bells & whistles that they try to push on you, I was in the car biz long enough to know that they are all rip offs if you're buying a vehicle in decent condition. When it came time to sit with the finance mngr. the games started.  I was originally told that I was given the best financing rate they offer before I sat down with the mngr, but as I kept refusing his attempts to sell me the extended warranty, amazingly he kept lowering my interest rate to help absorb the cost and I could see the veins in his head getting larger every time he tried and I said no. The interest rate went from 3.2% down to 1.9% if I purchased the extended warranty. Once it hit the 1.9% it was well worth it for me to purchase the warranty because it actually ended up saving me a good chunk of money on the cost of the vehicle as well.

This happens everywhere.  I finally broke down and bought a new phone.  For the actual phone purchase I prefer to go to a store, and in this case AT&T.  All the over-priced stuff they try to sell just leaves one frustrated.  So I should pay $40 for a screen protector that I can get for about $6 on Amazon?  I think not.  As to actual car buying, I usually go through an independent car broker that works through a local dealer.  The car is delivered to my house by some drivers (usually retired older persons), I sign the papers, and they leave.  Much much easier than a root canal.

I guess. I always buy phones online, so I don't have to listen to the sales pitch, but I do go out of my way to avoid the kiosks at the mall so I don't have to listen about the upgrades. I guess the way you buy cars is kind of the same. I might have to try that next time. I don't really haggle on car prices, so I don't like having to go through the hard sell for add ons after words. I figure they are already getting what they asked for. I have no problem saying no, but it's aggravating anyway, and I try to avoid that.

Dude wore his frustration very openly, he was starting to get rude as well. I was at the point of walking out when he offered the 1.9%.

A year ago we leased my wife a new Subaru Crosstrek. The whole experience was actually quite pleasant until we sat with the finance mngr. This guy was such an arrogant and pushy a-hole, he almost lost the sale because of the stupid interior/exterior protection pkg that I refused to purchase. I wanted to walk out, but the deal we got on the car was too good to pass up. It was the first time I actually wanted to punch one of these guys in the face. I complained about him to mngmnt on my way out.

That reminds me of the other reason i don't like buying cars. Usually I drive the car I have until it's mostly dead so walking out means I'm just going to have to do it all over again with someone else. So I have to sit there and say no until they crack, and those guys don't crack easily.

No they don't crack easily, but I think in the long run they are their own worse enemy. Because of the way these guys go about their business, I have absolutely no loyalty to any car dealer. There is only one car dealership that I have given repeat business and it's only because they're right down the street from my work and very convenient.

Buying a car is one of the worst experiences in anyone's lifetime, but it's a necessary evil unless you're independently wealthy.

You should have told him I will take the rate but not the  warranty. His head might explode lol.  The rate has zero to do with you buying the warranty. He gave you the buy rate not the sell rate . The dealership gets paid the spread .

The finance rate had everything to do with me buying the warranty. If the finance mngr hadn't lowered my finance rate enough to absorb the cost of the warranty, I never would've bought it and he loses his commission. I actually forced his hand to go even lower than just absorbing the warranty cost because I was ticked off that they told me I was already getting their best rate when in fact there was some decent wiggle room. I wanted to see just how low this guy would go to get his commission. My wife told me afterwards that she thought the guys head was going to explode when I said no to the second rate decrease.

Oh I agree its why you bought, I am just saying he could have given you that rate without you buying a warranty.

Warranties are not always a bad thing, especially on a used car.  I have seen people come back 4-5 months later saying the AC stopped working. I ask did they buy the warranty/. when the answer is no, they are paying

Okay, I misunderstood your other post. I agree that he could've just given me that rate to start with and that's why I made him keep going with the rate drops, because they lied when they told me I was already getting the best rate at 3.2%.

I agree that the warranties can be worth it if you're buying an older car that shows some wear and tear.

A few years ago, we bought the Mrs.-T-B.-mobile (used).

It was overpriced, and I told the Used-Car Manager that.

He dismissed us, acting 100% like an illegitimate male child.

As we walked out, I asked, "Who's your boss?"

He arrogantly replied, "I am the boss!"

I then went to the Fleet Manager, who was the polar opposite of the first guy.

He rapidly cut us a palatable deal on the same vehicle.

We filled out the paperwork in the U-CM's direct sight.

Some days later, I got a customer-satisfaction e-mail from the U-CM.

It was probably automated, or something that he was obligated to send.

I wrote back, "It was a distinct pleasure to do business with you, boss."
