Impossible to know, but I think it might have to do with the background checks and how many 'hits' you get because of common names or what not. I've seen some people mentioning they were told to be stuck on the FBI check stage.

Good luck getting your NOA2 soon!

Is the background check they run at the petition stage for both petitioner and beneficiary, do you know?  Just curious because my last name is quite uncommon and they'll have no trouble finding me but my fiance has a VERY common first and last name combo. D'oh.

Congratulations!!! I checked our case this morning and it also says ready!!! I was telling my fiancee 70-90 days after we received our NOA2, now I believe 30-50 days is more realistic.  We filled out the DS-160 on Friday and we will submit the package 3 this week.  I expect my fiancee to have an interview in 40 days.:jest:

Sorry to boast, I feel very thankful and fortunate, and tryin to keep others updated.  Best wishes to y'all.

Another quick update... Friday night, we proceeded with online scheduling our VAC and embassy appointments.  My fiancé went to VAC appointment yesterday (yes, Sunday!) and completed fingerprints and photos.  Our embassy interview is set for July 25!  He's planning to have medical done this Wednesday.  I received an email from the embassy this morning confirming they've received our case from NVC, and CEAC case status has updated from "IN TRANSIT" to "READY" :)

CONGRATULATIONS, I AM GLAD YOU ARE ALMOST DONE WITH THE FIRST STAGE.

It will depend on which embassy you are sending the package to.  You will need to visit the embassy's website to gather any information.  For my case the embassy is Thailand and we must submit the following from this link https://th.usembassy.gov/wp-content/uploads/sites/90/2017/03/k-packet-3-instruction-mar2017-english.pdf

Not sure really, but I think it's for both, petitioner and beneficiary. I also have a very uncommon name, so I should be easy to check, lol. Not so sure about my fiance though... He keeps saying his background check should be easy because he works for the county. We'd wish! :P

It says on the USCIS web site that it is done for both. The big question for me is what level of check they do. I'm assuming the petitioner will have his credit checked. It's a standard procedure for any other background investigation. A person having a history of financial problems is more prone to fraud so I'm sure it's a springboard to a more in-depth investigation. I'm not sure where they would go for the beneficiary outside of the FBI inter-agency database. I can't imagine that the average beneficiary would even have their name appear in it making the process seemingly quick.

I thought they're doing the backgrounds at the embassy stage, since they want the criminal records printed for that? Am I wrong and they've already done it to approve the petition?!

@Sangar: CONGRATULATIONS!! :D Now the busy time starts!!! :D

All I can do here is guessing, but I'm assuming apart from checking credit and criminal records, along with past marriages for the petitioner, they also check for the beneficiary's records in the US, like maybe if they overstayed or that kind of things immigration related, and maybe also a general background check with Interpol or something like that? :P Yep, sounds kind of very movie like for me. Totally clueless, to be honest.

At the Embassy stage we have to provide the police clearance too, that's right... so that's why I imagine it has more to do with the States background.

I also have to say I don't understand all that obsession with credit in the US, and I really need to change my mindset when it comes to that. I never use my credit card, because I like to control my expenses paying mostly with cash or debit card, since that's automatically deducted. I plain hate credit cards, but they seem to be somehow mandatory there!

They do a name recognition check for the beneficiary during the USCIS phase. I'm sure this is meant more to see if any radical connections appear. There's your local police report for the embassy for any problems with the law that wouldn't show up in the international database.

The easiest way for a foreign operative to compromise security is to find someone with the access they're looking for who is having financial problems and exploit it. There's a long history of breaches from people taking money for access due to financial hardship. It's not necessarily to see if you pay your bills but to see if you're vulnerable.

That's understandable, but what I mean it's we don't really have anything like credit score here, and I've read you are supposed to have credit cards and use them to build that.

Here if you are good on savings, and have no debts and some steady income, then that's enough proof for "credit score" and you can manage things however you want... or not.

As I said, I just hate credit cards :P

I think at the petition stage it's petitioner, once it gets to NVC stage they do a check on beneficiary 😁 My name is so common in Uk there's probably a hundred people with my name 😃😃😃

It's on day 152 so I called up uscis just for them to say they are working on January dates and to call back in a month. I even argued with the guy and stated that the processing dates online are as if April 30th.
