Anybody from Atlanta who has undergone Biometrics sometimes in April 2017 got his/her online status changed from  Fingerprint Appointment Was Scheduled  to Inline for interview or something else?? Looks like Atlanta field office is really slow!  Thanx for sharing your updates if any!

This basically means you are still in background check - Once your background clears you will be moved to inline, unless you are an early file in which case it seems you will only move to in line when you are a month or less to your actual eligibility date ( 5 years or 3 years of permanent residency)

  • sending I130 05/16/2007
  • cheque is cashed on 06/11/2007
  • NOA1 in mail 06/13/2007 (who said 13 is badluck )
  • 07/30/2007 After no touches and no other signs we just got an email with the APPROVAL of I130....Thank God !....now what ?

  • 08/07/2007 Case received by NVC and case number assigned :))

  • 08/13/2007 DS3032 and AOS bill were generated

  • 08/14/2007 Emailed choice of agent ...i'm so curious when they will accept it...hopefully soon

  • 08/21/2007 DS3032 and AOS fee bill arive in mail

  • 08/27/2007 paid AOS fee bill
  • 8/28/2007 DS3032 choice of agent accepted
  • 9/3/2007 IV fee bill generated

There is a lot of theorizing about it. If you look at the tracking data posted here you will see that some people have moved to "inline" 2 days after fingerprint appointment. Is possible to be cleared of background check that quickly? I think just sending and receiving data from FBI takes longer. Other people say that being in a fingerprint stage very often means that someone forgot to update the case after the actual fingerprinting. There are people sitting in "inline" phase forever, and they get feedback from USCIS that their name check is still pending.

Actually - when I had my fingerprints, the lady taking them told me when I asked , that the FBI has them instantly as soon as they click the Complete button on the screen. The check in itself is an automatic process. So the computer does it itself and it brings back the result almost immediately - IF you have an uncommon name and there are no hits - as in the FBI database does not have any mentioning of your name. In that case, updating the online USCIS case status is what takes a bit because they do it in batches at set times - so it is not a live feed.

Now, if you have a common name and if there are hits under your name, depending on the type of hits, they would have to inquire on an individual basis to confirm that you John Smith applying for citizenship are not the same John Smith they arrested / are surveilling for child pornography two doors down from your apartment in the same apartment building - exaggerating a bit but this is what it all comes down to - confirming that you are a negative on any criminal activities the FBI may track.

I had fprints taken on the 10th and I was put in line on the 12th in the morning - my name is absolutely unique in the US - I am the only person with this name. And no criminal activity lol

When people are stuck in background check , it is probably related to the FBI not sending the data rather than USCIS updating their system - USCIS agents don't manually update each case - it is a feed from FBI and then a batch posting. So if people are not being moved forward, it is because of their name and any related activity flags and the time it would take to clear those flags. Also, if the person really has criminal activity, I would imagine that would cause even more delays....

Everything you are saying is correct, but the point that being "in line" is the same as being "cleared" is not proven. I do not see any evidence, yet, that if you are in line then it means you have passed the background check and the opposite: if you are not in line then your background check is pending. Both me and my wife are in the fingerprint stage for two months. I am sure we do not have any criminal history and she has a very unique name. My name is not very common either. :)

To be more specific: I read posts, on different platforms, written by people being stuck "in line" phase who called USCIS and get info that they have pending name check.

I am in the same boat as you. I had called them already. They basically said wait to get more updates. I believe each processing office has different timelines and wait period.

As expected, 3 weeks after my most recent conversation with an L2 officer, still not in line and the promised letter did not materialize. Pretty much nothing that she had told me was confirmed by the latest L2 officer I spoke to today. She had told me that my background check is still pending, whereas the last person I spoke to told me that she had no access to my background check info. Frustration is mounting.
(NYC FO, FP 3/28, Status still says "fingerprint appointment scheduled")
Anyone else in a similar situation?

I am in a similar situation in the sense that I am still in fingerprint appointment. Ditto my wife. PD 03/28, FP 04/24. We do not have common names. I haven't tried calling USCIS as I expected it could be waste of time. Once the application falls outside of normal processing times I will talk to them through lawyers.
