Hi everyone. Good day.

I would like to ask what are the affordable insurance plans I can get? I entered via k1 and now adjusting my status. My husband did not get insurance through his employer. Instead, he got a term insurance which will expire this March. He told me he emailed the company to add me but they did not reply.

Thanks so much:D

medical. thanks

I believe if you were married within 60 days, your husband can add you through his employer as a lifestyle change status.  He should call HR.  Is it past 60 days?

I am facing a similar situation.  My wife and step son are flying here Monday.  I have health insurance through my employer but couldn't add my wife and step son during open enrollment because they weren't in the US. My employer told me them immigrating to the US is a qualifying event and I can add them when they get here. I will be making the change on Thursday.

have him physically go to hr and get the paperwork to add you. a lot bring a copy of marriage certificate to show you are within the 60 day window.

good luck

She said he did not get his insurance through his employer.

If his coverage is about to end in March, he could just get a family plan with his provider. Tell him to start asking for quotes now.

In the meantime, I'd have him call his provider and have them add you as a dependent. Marriage is a qualifying event so he should be able to just add you there.

Samesies with the hubby. Within the first week of coming here, we got our daughter her social security number and mine was mailed to me about a week after POE so my husband just took those to HR, signed some forms and we were added to his insurance.

True and they can not require a SSN by US law. I fought that battle and had to educate my HR and Insurance company at the time

I just talked to hr today and they informed me the change could take a month or more. So now my wife and step son will be without insurance while I wait.

that is just hr dragging thier feet. legally speaking there is no reason you could not submit the paperwork the day they arrive any delay you encounter is created by the companies policies.

good luck

I was told I will get a form to fill out next week and it will take the insurance company a month to process. I wonder if there is any sort of short term insurance I could get in the meantime.

Oh man, they told you that? That's a bunch of nonsense on their part honestly... I really wish HR would respect and help people more. You could buy a private insurance plan if you'd like, and you could cancel that at any time, the same as you could do if you signed up using the exchange. But as far as purchasing short term insurance goes, it won't absolve you of the penalty if that's a concern, nor will it cover anything pre-existing if that is an additional concern.

just ask them what the process is if you have a child born tomorrow and how they would get it covered right away.

also if they are processing paperwork for so long will they let you set the effective date of thier insurance to the day they came to the us?
