I know I've asked this before but besides my post from a few hours ago the last I asked was a few months ago so I don't remember.

I have a few questions about the I-551 stamp.

1. Does the extension letter extend status till the expiry of the letter or expiration anniversary of the conditional green card?

2. Am I supposed to get the stamp before letter expires or before GC anniversary expiration date?

3. If my husband is not planning to travel or switch jobs does he still need the stamp? Is it required?

4. His letter expired on February 27 and his GC expiration anniversary isn't until May 22nd should he get the stamp asap or can we wait a bit?

5. When he gets the stamp must he carry his passport at all times like he does with GC?

Does anyone else here have any answers to these questions?

I don’t think it matters when you get your stamp if GC is expired. As far as I remember you can stamp your passport 2 weeks befor your extension letter expires.  You don’t even need it if you are not planning to travel or change job. But if your husband needs to change Drivers license then he will need it. For example I’m not planing to travel or change job but my drivers license expires in June 2018. So I will stamp my passport because of that. But stamp itself is not mandatory. Correct me, guys, if I’m wrong

1. Green card

2. I would say, GC?

3. Nope

4. You can wait :)

5. Not sure about this one...I just carry everything with me because I'm a bit too paranoid about being stopped (watch too much tv, maybe, lol).

One thing I know is that if your employer and/or the DMV, for example, give you a hard time for "lack" of proof, tell them to use your alien # to check your status on the SAVE program. It worked for me at the DMV, the lady didn't know about the letter, so after a little explaing on my part, she told me that according to the SAVE program, my status was extended indefinitely, until a final decision from USCIS.

I haven't gotten my dl yet, still need to take the practice test, but from what she told me, it'll be valid for more than a year.

You are really good wife because you are looking for information to help your husband. My husband probably thinks that I’m already a citizen))) he has no idea what’s going on with my case 😄

Thank you for being so helpful. I've checked every day even around midnight for infopass appointments and there is never any available. I wonder if I called they would set something up.

Also can we access the SAVE program or can only federal agencies do that?

Government agencies use SAVE and employers use E-Verify. We can check our own status on E-Verify through Self-Check but only a few agencies have access to SAVE like the DMV. I wish we had access to it so we could see what it looks like on their end.

Being as he is past the expiration date of his extension letter he's not going to be in any kind of trouble for not having the stamp yet right? He's still considered in legal status right?

Here is my take on it and this is nothing definitive. I had to do some emergency travel and I decided to observe  the the airlines/airport authorities reaction to my expired GC . I initially presented my expired GC and they looked a little puzzled and then I presented the extension letter and they seemed satisfied, not completley happy though but satisfied.

If it was upto me, I would just go ahead get a I 55 stamp and keep ready in case of unexpected travel, renewal of license and employer related stuff . Its the only free stamp USCIS is giving me, so why not ? Oh lol.

I don't think the I551 is free like you said. Remember we have actually coughed out $670 before we're entitled to the seemingly free stamp...:o:o:o

Absolutely he will be fine without any problem. Expired GC does not mean he is out of status. His case is pending with USCIS and he is a permanent resident until a final decision is made. I-551 stamp is not necessary it is just a proof of specific things like travel etc.

I think once we hit the one year mark of filing I-751 we should get half of the money back as compensation for poor service.

After I learnt about the program, I tried to see what it was about.

It didn't recognise either of the case numbers, nor my passport #, but I was able to go through with my :alien: number. What shows until now is that the DMV made a request about me and the answer was sent to the DMV (something like that).

;)

Transferring Cases From Vermont Service Center to California Service Center

In order to balance workloads, USCIS recently began transferring some cases from the Vermont Service Center to the California Service Center. The affected cases include:

How You Will Be Affected

If your Form I-130 case is being transferred, we will send you a notice listing the transfer date and the new location where your case will be processed. Your original receipt number will not change and this will not delay your case’s processing except for the additional time needed to transfer the file to the new location.

If your Form I-751 case is being transferred, we will send you a notice listing the transfer date and the new location where your case will be processed. Your original receipt number will not change and this will not delay your case’s processing except for the additional time needed to transfer the file to the new location. The words “Case Type: CRI89 Approved Removal on Conditions” will be printed on the transfer notice. This refers to your pending Form I-751. The transfer notice may not contain the original receipt number of your pending Form I-751.

The filing location and instructions for these forms will not change. Please continue to file the forms at the address noted on the form instructions and on the USCIS website at www.uscis.gov.

How to Track the Status of Your Case

You can check the status of your case by entering your receipt number in Case Status Online. You can also sign up to receive automatic case status updates by email.

If you do not receive a decision within the published processing time for the California Service Center then you may submit an inquiry using e-Request or call the USCIS Contact Center at 1-800-375-5283. For TDD for the deaf and hard of hearing, call 1-800-767-1833.

When calling to ask about your case status, tell us your original receipt number and that your case was transferred to a new location.

If we send you any notice, such as a request for evidence, please read the notice carefully. Make sure you respond to the same service center that sent you the notice.

If you move while your case is pending, then you must tell us your new address as soon as possible after you move so we can notify you of any action on your case. You can change your address online or by calling the USCIS Contact Center.
