Question: My wife's father received his IR5 visa yesterday and it shows that it is only good for 3 months. It expires May 20, 2018. We assumed it would be good for 6 months, so we had already booked a flight to go to Manila and pick him up. Our return flight arrives in Dallas on the morning of May 19th. My question is, will there be any problems with him arriving only 1 day before the expiration of his visa? Does his visa have to be valid for some period of time after he arrives here? Any insights into this would be appreciated.

Feb. 2018 - Interview - Approved

@Caramel Swirl Question, my mom's interview will be on Tuesday(yay for that!) I'm just making sure if I got this thing right. SO my mom recieved an email from the embassy that we are missing some documents for the affidavit of support. and said she can just bring those missing ones on her interview. They did not say what documents , so it kinda sucks. I am guessing they need more proof of income. I recall we only sent our IRS transcripts for 2016 and also our tax returns and w2's for the year 2016 only.

So, I just recently sent our 2015, 2016, and 2017 tax returns, 2016 and 2017 pay stubs and my husband's retirement pay for 2017.

My question is, do I need to send more? Am I missing something?

Thank you

My dad and I got an email that says he is missing a document (NBI) and says there that he can bring that to the interview or send it to NVC. My question is do I have to send a copy of it to NVC and have my dad bring it to the interview? Or can he just bring it to the interview without me having to send it to NVC? He does not have an interview date yet.

It depends on what the instruction said.......Did it say, "we will schedule the interview"?  Those letters can be confusing.  Can you post an image of the letter?

Mostly, if they ask for updated documents at this stage of the game, they are expecting you to send updated ones to your relative to take to the interview (they have already forwarded your file to the embassy if you are set for interview this near).  Make sure affidavit is signed and you send whatever they requested.

See if you can call NVC early Monday, or even today (they are available until about midnight), they should be able to tell you.  In any event send to your relative updated signed affidavit, along with the relevant documents that you have to prove you can take care of the immigrant.

Good luck to you!!!!

Hi Guys,

Question, I'm the one petitioning my mom to come in the US but don't have the job right now.

Would that mean my husband will be the one to file for the affidavit of support or both of us should do it?

Appreciate your response. Thanks!

When he enters at POE, the CBP officer will place a stamp in his passport, next to the actual visa, which acts as his temporary Green Card for 12 months. His actual card will arrive between 1 month and 6 months after entering, as long as the $220 GC fee has been paid . The stamped passport is used for any overseas travel and for employment verification until the actual card arrives. Travel does not need to be for an emergency reason.

Where do you pay the GC Fee? Can you pau the GC fee there upon entry?

Hi everyone,

Once the visa of our parents are shipped together with the passport, how long usually it expires before they need to travel here in the US. I read some got 6 months while others got 3 months. Thanks for those who will reply.
